The state of coop now a days is kind of looked down upon. The goal of the coops is to complete the wad, and in each map get the most kills. There have been talks about changing the scoring system to count the damage you do in total, rather that just your kills.

Anyway coop is considered pretty easy and not as much as a challange as FFAs or something. Some novely wads like shooting range have been made that give coop more of a point. Sort of, at least a different point.

Anyway I was thinking of ways to improve coop. It doesn't really lie on ZDaemon but more on WAD design. You make the judgment. The goal is to make coop more of a challenge and really worth playing.

I was thinking, how about limiting the amount of times people can respawn(server option)? People wouldn't spam their heads off and they might actually take their time. Wads are gonna have to cut back on the huge masses of monsters though. That would make it nearly impossible.

When we get voice chat, I can see people vocally discussing their strategy before entering a monster infested area when one of their members yells "Alright chums let's do this!" and runs in yelling his name. This leads to the whole team getting killed by hey, it happens.

Any other ideas on how to improve coop?

Last man standing coop possibly ... it'd make it more tactical so you wouldn't die until next round

but then that'll just leave to idiots purposely trying to get you killed

Coop with teamkilling, with the teamkills counted as "Frags" Smile

What was the name of the book about the making of Doom? I was wondering if they planned from the beginning to have deathmatches. I was thinking maybe they only planned for playing coops online and then they noticed it was fun to shoot eachother. Smile

Hey yeah, you could split coop into teams! Two teams could compete against each other trying to clear a base of monsters first or something.

You could use Team DM, seperate the teams so they cannot hurt each other, and tag all the monsters to some ACS that activates after they are killed.

The team co-op event has both teams in the map together, trying to kill more monsters than the other.

it's on the ZDolympics soon, the server will be on GSN which will be unlocked for a bit for final bug testing. We're doing it as a 3v3. While it's on GSN unlocked, no doubt it'll be played as a normal coop, when it comes to teams it's pretty tactical, teamspeak will be handy but we'll have to do manual team colours for this. To be able to do it as a proper team thing with kills credited to each would be great as long as you can only kill the monsters. Maybe next year for that if all these events go well Smile
