Hi!

This problem occurs when you collect keys on a cooperative or survival (with more than one life) map. There is no problem until you have the first key. If you have already collected one or more keys and you die AND the sv_deathlimit has expired (it's really annoying if the deathlimit is much lower than 180 secs) after your death when you switch back from spectator mode to the game, you seem to have your keys (they appear in your inventory) but in fact you had already lost all your keys after the deathlimit has expired.

Two options would be nice:

1. After you switch back from spectator mode to the game, your keys remain as they appear in your inventory.

2. After you switch back from spectator mode to the game, you'll lose all your keys and they will be deleted from your inventory.

Remark: Here I meant by "spectator mode" only those cases when the deathlimit expired and the program automatically switches you back to it.

A suggestion: In these cases you don't lose your weapons and ammo, so I prefer the first one if the dmflag "keep keys" is turned on. If it is turned off, then of course the second one is preferred.

Yes, the 'ghost keys' effect. Rejoining the game from Spectator mode shows previously picked up keys in the player slot, but the player actually has no keys. So this might actually be a bug. The keys shouldn't be shown in the slot after rejoining.

The keys shouldn't be shown in the slot after rejoining.

Though we don't know the developers' original intention. That's why I suggested to keep them because weapons and ammo are kept.

Can confirm it, it's bug.
The key(s) should be reset when you turn into a spectator (e.g. health and ammo resets, too).
