I'm opening this thread because I would like to talk about the Zdaemon experience points system and I would like to know how other people think about it. The reason I've been thinking about it is because of my dad. He was playing an online game which looked pretty repetitive to me and I asked him why he is still playing the game, because he was doing more or less the same thing all the time. His answer was: “To collect experience points! Everything I produce in the game grants me experience points. The amount of experience you get depends on the product you make. Products that take longer to make grant you more experience points. I like collecting as many experience points I can get, so I go level up, so I can compare my score to other people that play the game as well.”
I'm sure that we all agree that experience points do not reflect skill. Now that I've talked to my dad and thought about his motivation to play that game, I think the current experience point system reflects the exact thing it should to motivate people to play: it reflects how much time you've spent playing the game.
I think introducing experience point systems for the other gamemodes will motivate more people to play the game, which will result in more players on the servers. I think that because it often is very motivating to see yourself making progression. I also think that bringing back the post counter on the forums will lead to more replies for the exact same reason.
What about you? What do you think? |

I know this is probably aimed towards new players, but I'd love if something like more simple version of QL Ranks was implemented into Zd. That might be a motivation to go further, for those on the edge between "noobing it out in brit10" and "playing some actually competitive game modes". |

Ya the ELO system is really great, even if it was just a simple one for zdaemon. Would make doom dueling/ctf playing really good in the long run in terms of stats. It would be abit awkward at first as some people might try cheat there way to the top but after a while it'll balance out well |

It would be cool if there were Public CTF Stats IMO
to see which players have the most points/frag/flags
as far as im concerned the ffa stats SHOULD NOT CHANGE i like being in the top 25 |

If it were possible for there to be stats for each game mode that would be great, as well as a ladder system for competitive modes. I'm mainly a survival player now, so I'd love to see something like time played/number of deaths, or something like that amalgamated across all survival games played (along with something to minimise EXP cheating like detecting if a player just sits in a server for ages wracking up points by staying still).
Or how about achievements that mappers could make for their specific maps, as well as general ones which would appear on your profile. Probably completely unfeasible but that's what happens when a complete code noob like me jumps in with a suggestion :p |

That sounds pretty much like RuneScape Rontard, But let's take for example Co-op. How would you make that work? a bit like Borderlands? Each monster gives xp and depending on the strenght and hp of the monster the more xp points it gives? |

Yes, that is exactly how I would like to see it. The same goes for deathmatch. Killing another player with your fists should be rewarded with more points than killing a player with BFG9000. In Capture The Flag, we already have a good point-system already which is ready to be converted to overall statistics.
Oh well, apparently I'm the only one around here that would actually want such a system. The Zdaemon Development Team has better things to do than creating an experience point system that no one wants. |
