I know we now have HUDmessages working - which are a thing of awe, and were supposed to be a huge victory for modders everywhere - but the truth is that the end of the rainbow is still a bit further off.

They were looking so promising offline in B27, but then the reality of B28 (where they could finally be used online) fell a bit short. After one initial snag, the implementation seems to be flawless but, without SetHUDsize, it's quite crippled. The issue is that HUDmessages do not scale (the way that all other game messages can). So, what may look great for someone playing at 320x200 may just look like another crosshair to players with larger screen resolutions (and vice versa).

It's not the end of the world, as players can always switch res. But many would not consider that to be an option. As such, then it's almost preferable to rely on the old Print messages (even if they do spam up the console). But not quite Laughing

I don't know how much work this would take to implement, although Worst suggested that it'd take quite some rewriting of the renderer to pull off. I wouldn't want to see 1.09 held up by something which may seem frivalous, and I don't like asking for stuff when you guys already have plenty on your plates - especially when it must seem neverending to you - like you give us one feature, and straight away that leads to another request... But, equally, I would hope that we're not left hanging on for the one thing that would make the ingame communication system complete.

I concur with Cybershark that this is the one thing that ZDaemon really needs to allow us to put the finishing touches on custom gameplay mods. I hate to seem ungrateful after you guys have made HUD messages a reality for us, but it was a serious oversight on our part to not request this in conjunction with HUD message support.

I guess that's the way the ball rolls, huh? Implement one thing with fabulous, otherworldly promises only to realize that more work is needed to make it really shine...

I hope that this doesn't require as much work as Worst mentioned, because it would be a shame to see all these mods not live up to their full potential. But at the same time, 1.09 really needs to hit the shelves and I don't think this request necessitates waiting any longer.

Don't let this request burden you guys, but please keep it in the back of your minds. And thanks Cybershark for bringing this to everyone's attention.

This would be an awesome feature if implemented along with SetFont (if SetFont is not in ZD that is)

My future stuff really depends on this being implemented, and I know you guys are already working/planning to work on it. When I tried to use this function, I got a message "ACS SetHudSize is not implemented yet." instead of the regular unknown P-code stuff Smile
Keep up the good progress! And if this thing will eventually work like in zdoom 2 then..
