I think we've all come across this, the idea that using the BFG or any weapon predominantly is somehow 'unfair'. One of my favourite ranters on Youtube, RantingRamsay, recently made a video about people telling him to not use certain weapons in certain games. While this isn't about DOOM, I think it applies to most FPS games in the past and now.

So what do you guys think, you think some weapons are 'noobish' or lesser skilled? Do youi think people should have these unwritten rules about what is considered fair play?

He's kind of lumping 2 different things here. Using an overpowered weapon and being able to play a game how you please are totally different. Online games have rules, even as Zdaemon has rules, in order for other players to be able to enjoy themselves (trolling anyone?). So he can't really lump that in as his main argument, I think.

Sometimes i just say "no bfg", so he/she doesnt use bfg and i dont use bfg, i think ( in my opinion) that the bfg is for any other game mode, except 1-1 i mean, if you are losing, like -6 spred or more its acceptable to use it because you must be mad by all the times the other frag you, but just to reach more frags, i think all other weapons are nice, i sometimes use BFG, but mostly only ssg and rocket, (shotgun is just too weak and chaingun... well i hate it), this is my own opinion of mine of the opinions by me.

People who complain about the BFG are just being whiny babies. It's almost easier to avoid a BFG shot than it is a normal shot. The time it takes to charge is more than enough time to kill the user. It's also useless in close range.

It's interesting to see how people bash the BFG, but nobody complains that they are being killed with an SSG all the time. The point being, especially with Doom, that each weapon serves it's purpose and using the right weapon at the right time usually results in victory. For example, I wouldn't use an SSG in a long range gunfight, I would opt for the SG or CG. By the same token, these weapons may not be as effective in close range.

Going back to the topic of BFG whoring, it only really works in FFA when people are not paying attention to what is going on (in my experience, the BFG is not as useful in 1-on-1 unless the map is really cramped, like Judas 23). In this case, the 'BFG whore' should enjoy the fruit of his/her labor because they are exploiting a tactic provided to them by others. So if you dislike being killed by a BFG all the time, pay attention to your surroundings and do not give the 'BFG whores' to kill you.

People who are using mouse AND keyboard also really is just so noobish. Why not just use mouse only, that is so much hardcore and cool.

Serp nailed it all. If I'm getting owned by it in a duel then, either I suck, or the map design is heavily flawed. As far as FFA goes, then it's probably down to ridiculous player limits on a map - or the map being deliberately weighted in favour of it. I personally won't spam like hell with it just for the sake of doing so.

And the SSG? Yeah, that's what plain sucks. It's kinda obvious from the way that it was only tacked onto Doom2 as an afterthought. It's also plain that the gun was designed more for SP/co-op than it was ever intended for DM. But, because people like easy kills, then now we're stuck with a preponderance of maps which give it away, free, at spawn

Haha, this kind of BFG talk is old as Doom is... Just play more often and then you will learn how to use weapons in Doom. It's hard if you play against skilled players.

The BFG should be completely taken out of FFA, CTF, Deathmatch, 1on1....Its really gay in those game modes.

Its only really useful in co-op and survival modes.

Well, that's your opinion. And frankly, it sucks.
