We're long overdue for 3-way CTF. This time around we're going with the 3-Way CTF Madness pack headed by Spacepirate, featuring work from such glamorous names as Izm, Exl, TUD, Jad, Caboose, Ronald, Worst, Stewboy, Cybershark, Doomination, Sniper109, and Blackshark. All in all it's a very nice pack of maps for a smashing variant of CTF.

If you've never ventured far from a diet of conventional 2-way, then you might be pleasantly surprised at how much a third team can really shake things up.

Rally the troops. Bug the IRC warriors in your local chat channel (you know the ones). Phone your long-estranged cousin. Make as many 3-way puns as you see fit. It's back baby!

    Game Mode: CTF
    IWAD: Doom 2
    PWADs: 3waymadness-ctfv4
    Tskins1a
    3wayvox
    redvspurplevsyellow

    Maps: 23 (01-23)
    DMFLAGS: 283844 / 33554432
    Teams: 3
Players: 15 [5 vs 5 vs. 5 (+1 spectator) - set max players per team to 5 or autobalance it]
    Scorelimit: 5
    Timelimit: 10 minutes
    Skill: Nightmare
    Voting: Kick and map
Other stuff: No team damage, no team atuoaim, no overtime

    Date: Saturday 28th May 2011
Time: 7:30 pm BST / 9:00 pm EST
Locations: [XXX] / Dwango United NJ

For those fellows in the northern hemisphere, I hope you all have a good summer. Cool

Niiiiiiiiiice Cool

There is a later version of this pack: 3waymadness-ctfv4. That has an extra map and replaces some of the others. Just sayin' *shrug*

Caboose? Roland? Stew? Sniper? Black? Lol, where do you get these names from? There were only 8 of us contributed to it.
And lmao at the 'glamorous name' that is 'Doomination'.

Interesting. The CREDITS lump in 3waymadness_zds.wad lists more people's contributions than what appear to have made it into 3waymadness_ctfv4.wad.

Moved on up to the newer version in any case.

I think if you read back on the development thread for the project, you'll see that those guys probably semi-commited to it at one point. Or something.

Red vs Purple vs Yellow! Worst just made this nice palette-altering patch for our use this weekend.

Ok, well that's not just 'madness', that counts as genuine 'stupidity' I think?

This wouldn't be so bad for something like 2way TDM, but a palette hack is not the same thing as 'red vs purple vs yellow'. Players will be converted, sure, but the vox and the onscreen messages are still going to be saying 'blue' and 'green'. Imho, running this (on something as manic as 5on5on5 3way) would cause so much fucking confusion it'd be untrue.

I doubt it.

On the chromatic scale, purple is close to blue as yellow is close to green. And red is still red. I don't want to insult the players' intelligence by thinking that they couldn't sort it out after some minutes.

But who knows, Worst gave me the first edition of this wad and then immediately started contemplating ideas for the next one.

I'm sure players will adapt to it, eventually ...unless they are really drunk Surprised

You know I have no problem with novelty patches, but the point is that, on this occasion, you are making things unnecessarily difficult for the players for no good reason at all. Cons outweighing pros, etc.

This looks promising!

I will join if I'm not asleep or busy...or really drunk.

Just about played all the maps through, although the attendance was really disappointing. Goddamn ZDDL idlers...

Still, there were some great games played, and Izm's 'Rocky Debate' rocked as usual Very Happy

<NotTheCupboard> So how did the colours feel?
<NotTheCupboard> Aside from looking like puke?
<TheCupboard> Fine.
<NotTheCupboard> After about an hour I'd adjusted, I think.
<TheCupboard> Yellow wasn't very vibrant.
<TheCupboard> Sometimes it looked like red.

But bonus points to that one guy we got in the server who scored a hattrick of complaints. He had equal hatred for the palette, the vox and also the maps!

We hashed this all out last night, but I don't count 3 vs 3 vs 3 throughout the night by any stretch to be "really disappointing". The color thing really became a non-issue after a while, with only a handful of bellyache remarks heard throughout, mostly by people who hanker for white bread sandwiches with American cheese.

Other than that, well, it was 3-way CTF. Some maps were jumbo-sized and scared some people away, but plenty of decent games were had throughout.

I think you're trying to pass off the maximum crowd as a consistent figure there? Anyway, how did Euro fare?

I don't know. Are people still living there these days? We don't consistently hear much of a report on how things go there.
