Not sure if anyone has come up with this idea before or not, but it would be really cool if there was an optional indicator on the screen that somehow showed which direction(s) you're being hit from. I think the most effective and simple version I've seen is a small curved red bar(?) on side of the screen that shows which direction you're getting hit from. Like if you're being hit directly in front of you it would flash a small red bar at the top center of the screen....

Anyone else ever want something like this? I think it would make for a nice feature, but I'm not sure of the feasibility.

Good thinking! I like this in other, more recent games and it could be a cool addition to the NS feature flags.

Thanks, I think it would be pretty handy in a lot of situations. It would be nice as a feature you could turn on or off so if you get annoyed by it you could just shut it off for a while.

if i am not mistaken vanilla doom already had this. the face in the hud
would look in the direction where the damage came from (left, right, etc).
so maybe if we could make that work online you would have exactly what you asked for.

Nice idea, But 98% of the time i am pretty sure i know where i am getting hit from. I guess indicator would good idea for team killing coop games.......

Meh... that would be decent, but I don't like using the "HUD"--and I know lots of other people don't as well. I usually zoom in so it just shows the most important numbers. It would be less imposing and more accurate to have some kind of indicator.

An 8 way indicator would be awesome. I think it would be most useful in 1v1 games.

I did make a little patch once which put up big freakin' arrows on the sides of the screen when you get hit. But it was a hack of the status bar graphics, and so you had to have status bar showing.

...also it's quite redundant if the face doesn't even work right online.

Implemented the proper turning of the marine head in the HUD towards
the direction of the attacker (human or monster).


The doom2.exe hit indicator has been restored for the upcoming version.
You'll know if the attacker is left or right.
