1. DooM Builder: www.doombuilder.com (xodemultimedia.com)
2. Wad Author: (If it expires, just rewrite it) http://www.gamers.org/pub/idgames/utils/level_edit/wauthor.zip
3. DeePSeA: www.sbsoftware.com

If your extreamly new (not even knowing the basics), I suggest using Wad Author with the tutuorial.

DeePsea 11.85 comes with a fully interactive tutorial and when combined with the likes of Wintex it's makes the ideal package.

DeePsea does come with a linedef limit but if you're planing to make an average DM map then I wouldn't worry about it. But hey, if you like it you can always buy it Smile

DeePsea: http://www.sbsoftware.com/
Wintex: http://doortohell.tripod.com/zips/wintex50.zip

The following link will provde you with pretty much everything else you need to know about wad editing, but master DeePsea first then progress onto adding your own textures, etc.

I've gotta fix all those tutorials so that the wad downloads are available again not to mention atleast finish up the BOOM editing section.... Maybe someday I'll get off this playing/mapping kick and get back to finish up the site.

If you are just starting, use Deepsea. Deepsea is much more powerful and easier to use once you get it down.

If you want one that's simple and idiot proof, use Wad author. (not trying to insult people)

If you wanna see your maps in real time, use Doom builder.

Then you would like Zeth too, it's almost the same, but has some more features. (as well as a couple of bugs :\)
