Firstly an apology. A number of people asked for a certain novelty WAD which involves forced camoflauge skins and I really had intended to run it this week. But something big kinda came up!
After three and a half years (and one false start) GreenwarII is finally looking like it's gonna see the light of day sometime within the next month. But this is not exactly your father's Greenwar here. The map designs are all still created by the same guy - Grotug/Hellbent - but he threw them out to the 32in24 regulars over at DoomWorld to give the maps a more modern visual flair. There's a whole bunch of jazzy styles in there but the gameplay is the same classic stuff we know and love. If you ever played 32in24-5 or 32in24-7 then you'll get the idea, and I can't find any conveniently sized screenshots other than one of my own right now so here:
The betas have been up on an XXX server for the last week or so but I want to use ZDS this week to really give them a thorough pounding.

'Unfy: ' should be ready to go.
Also -- i always locally host any wads my servers run, just to make sure any clients are certainly downloading the same file the servers run with |

Heheheh yeah, Thieffles was feeling the same way.
So yah, played the whole rotation. Switched from the overfull 3-BET server to the deserted Unfy one at some point for a few quiet 3/4 player games, and then later rejoined 3-BET before we called it a night.
8 players was too much for some maps and jumping spoiled a few others but the maps themselves were generally pretty faultless. Hope this'll find a good home when it gets released (maybe with 6players?). |

in my opinion gw2 needs floating player limit, map by map. or just filter duel stuff out of ffa servers. map03 seems like it can't support even THREE players! i got out of the bfg closet ONCE and i got a dominating, jumping from ~6th place to victory, heh. let's not promote new b10 crap. |

It's all very professional. The visuals can look a little busy at times but thankfully the gameplay is still strong.
And then there's stuff like map32 where I wish the scenery and fringe areas could be accessed by the players. Just look at all of those surroundings! |

I made some notes a while ago (albeit incomplete) so here are a few more thoughts:
MAP05 - Tiny touch of tutti-frutti on the gray doors by the snow crates.
MAP06 - Stair texture unaligned by plasma rifle.
MAP15 - Could be my favorite level with the open layout and different elevation.
MAP17 - Quite an achievement, though it feels as if those green cables are just everywhere.
MAP20 - Really took a liking to this also. That new CEMENT texture <3.
MAP24 - Uhm, pretty good also. But you can just jump to get the plasma rifle.
MAP29 - Light flat unaligned by rocket launcher elevator.
MAP35 - Some tutti-frutti on the switch nearest the BFG.
As an aside, the music can be downright catchy! |
