So I had just been thinking a couple weeks back how we were pretty low on unused CTF packs and how I was going to either get real creative or make more recycling effort, and then what happens? Two 'new' packs come along at once!
I remember first hearing about CoreCTF back when it was still called OafCTF. Can't remember who prodded me to check it out but I'm thinking maybe it was Shakal. Anyways, it was a bugger to get ahold of due to never having a file link up but I found it in the end.
The original maps were a bit raw in places with misaligned flats, missing textures, 3D mode starts left in and even player starts outside the map. I asked Caboose at the time about the possibility of getting it fixed up for a ZDS but he said that most of it was gonna be scrapped and restarted. I expected it'd probably get forgotten about but instead Caboose and Gax were joined by a bunch of other mappers and recently finished up a pack which looks and plays... well, see for yourself this weekend
No green team, no vampires, just plain old honest flag action!

Really kind of weird how many great wads are coming out in the last quarter of 2009. No complaints here of course! Let's make the usual magic happen. |

I won't check the maps before the session to not spoil it. This sounds like it packs a lot of surprises. |

We took bets on the side as to whether you'd make an appearance! ;_;
Some notes on the maps that I played that night:
MAP01 - Kinda campy in the flag room.
MAP04 - Pretty good. Not sure how I like those pointy arches on the overhang but that's a minor 'point' (oh-ho ). Who doesn't like a good lava base, anyway?
MAP05 - One of my favorites right here.
MAP06 - To make those flags on the castles look a little nicer, the heights could be changed up so they aren't all at the top. It might help make the bricks a little less plain looking. The railgun was a beast on this map.
MAP08 - Consider adjusting your metal panel alignments in the bases. You have windows and computer screens that abruptly cut into metal panels. In most cases, it would just involve dragging a vertex here and there over 8 units or so.
MAP09 - I feel as if I have played this in another level set, like déjà vu or something...? In any case, it's very good. Maybe a 32in24 map resembles it...
MAP10 - Nice Strogg influences here.
MAP11 - Well done. I got pulverized on this map but still have good memories, heh.
MAP12 - I might like it more with less SSG. Chainguns would change up the flavor.
I was kind of watching the Matrix and ZDSing on the commercials. Good stuff though! |
