The Mayan calendar is cyclic. When it ends in 2012, it simply starts over again, and that's all.
For those who believe the Bible, it says that nobody will know the time of the end, so if people are predicting the end will come on a certain date, you can be assured that it will certainly not happen on that date, if you believe the Bible, that is.
This is going to be even more of a non-event than the Y2K bug. |

Isn't it all painfully obvious? The people who come up with these dates always change them whenever they're wrong. I mean after 2000 came without incident, the doomsday is changed to 2012. I'm sure after it passes, they'll come up with another one claiming that they "misinterpreted" something.

Excellent point, I forgot about that. In fact the Mayans weren't the only ones to have cyclic calendars. The Aztec believed that the world had already been destroyed many times and it was going to be destroyed again in 1519. Ironically, this was the same year that Hernando Cortes arrived in the Mexico and conquered them. Perhaps there is truth in this after all .
Anyways, what will be interesting is seeing how many morons commit suicide on December 20th, 2012. |

The strange thing is actually that, though mayans did have a calendar, which, according to some historians, is more precise than any modern one and actually based on fine astronomic calculations, there is absolutely no evidence of them gathering such information and doing so precise calculations. Why would a civilization, that grows crops and hunts prey in the woods would need such a calendar? And how did they develop it?
Myths and legends say that this knowledge was given to them by the gods. But who were those gods? Where are they? |

A few interesting points. as ATG_Death brings up. Also ya 2000 had no basis to it and that was obvious, but as stated 2012 does have some interesting facts going for it.
Now no, the world is not gonna end in 2012, but it won't be uneventful.
We actually do pass through the 'Galactic Equator' on that day which is cool, now scientists did show that generally extintions do happen when crossing as believed to be because of more space junk in that area.
One other interesting note, Nibiru actually means "Planet of the Crossing" which many assumed to mean the planet itself crossing into our system, in 2012 it could simply refer to our planet crossing the equator of the galaxy. Fun stuff! |

I'd say it's 50/50 - either will, or will not
And well, the world ends as soon as you die. For you at least (does anything else matter?). |

We don't know, because most of their stuff was destroyed by the conquistadors.
All that was left was their farming shit. |

And also calendar, their writings, including various maths related stuff, their religion and mythology also didn't vanish. If they did some astronomical observation (that needed at least 1000 years), those would've been found carved in stone somewhere. This just doesn't make any sense.
By the way, probably all of the mayan architecture left in mexico is reconstructed in modern days - all that you see there was mostly built by archaeologists in 19-20 centuries. But there's a paradise for various 'alternative theory' historians in Peru and Bolivia, where all of the architectural legacy is stored the way it was found.
The point is, history is a very controversial science, most of we are taught at school and read in wikipedia isn't true, artifacts found all over the world that do not fit under the 'official' theory are considered a fake, even if scientific research of those artifacts says otherwise. Why? Because there is something to hide. Why would egyptian historical society ban everyone from making unofficial researches in the valley of kings on a government level? There are only questions everywhere |

earthquake has a point but this whole 2012 thing might be different
Not sure how fast planet nibiru is traveling but in theory if it made an elliptical pass through our orbit seeing as how this planet is about the size of Jupiter I'm sure this would throw off the earths rotation, screw up the gravitational pull and push, maybe distort the magnetic field , ...hell it may even collide with something.
Old egyptian hieroglyphics depict this planet , the famous Mayan calendar, the Chinese algorithm, etc.. al point to 2012. This planet Nibiru supposedly has an elliptical pass every 3600 years that means the last time it passed it was 1593. So I don't think that I or anyone else can logically say this won't or will happen all we can do is look at artifacts and attempt to predict what they are saying and interpretation is open.
We all know that most of the earth at some point in time was covered by water, we also know that their were great ice ages. The land and expansion is explained by volcanic activity.
NASA has vivid pictures from mars that details dried lake beds and river deltas not to mention intelligent structures. This leads some researchers to believe that we got the our moon from a possible collision[R] (on top) with this 10th planet. etc.. etc...
All I know is that it is public information that there is a 10th planet, its called Nibiru....will it hit us? is their life on it? if so are they more advanced then us? If this is indeed going to happen we will all see it coming. You can't have a planet the size of Jupiter headed your way without being able to see it with the naked eye in the coming years. |
