Heeeeyy it's time to break out the party hats and loose the confetti because this week we're celebrating two years of ZDaemon Sessions!!one!eins1uno!
Of course, it happens to be newbie coop time again, just as it was at the first anniversary session. For number one hundred and four, we're going back to '96.
In 1996, a team of twenty-one mappers created Memento Mori, a collection of 32 maps that really kick ass. MM pops up on many Doomers' top ten lists of favorite SP wads. It's not hard to see why. Most maps are the essence of quality and demonstrate the proper way to make classic fun and dangerous Doom maps. The maps show their age (13 years - about as old as some players around here ), but they do possess that timeless Doom charm. The spacious designs work quite well in cooperative mode and have spawn points spread across the levels so you don't always start in the same room as the other players.
Let's throw in a quality weapons mod for the heck of it (featuring a pistol replacement that I cherish ). Let's do this! :-]
Game Mode: COOP
PWADs: mm
bomb_x

Really couldn't have done it better myself!
MM has been on the list like forever, but as its not a particularly current WAD then there was never any rush to run to get it out of the way. I was gonna say to run the MM music pack with it, but that seems to have been integrated at some point *shrug*
Maybe some map skip voting though?
Oh yah, and happy birthday ZDS!

Blech, there seem to be a lot of different version of this wad floating around. There are several versions on idgames, one on Dogsoft with some other changes, etc. I changed the download link in the first post to point to mm_allup.zip on idgames. That one is official and seems to be what I want. It's the one that Tyserv seems to be pointing to as well. |

What about adding MMMUS.WAD to the servers? |

If you want to, go for it!
The weapons mod all ready has music replacements included, so I didn't think it was necessary. *shrug* If server hosts prefer the classic MM tunes, go ahead and load mmus.wad. |

Actually the weapon mod just replaces the music for MAP01. Really it's a minor quibble as I'm sure half the people that play do so with their own choice of music. |

*thumps head on desk* Then yes, by all means run mmus along with the other two wads. First post updated. |

Any chance of some beefed-up monsters (harder stronger faster etc.) to relieve any issues arising from several players ripping through well-trodden maps designed for 1 player? |

Errk... I hadn't checked Cuppy's DMFLAGS but I'd kinda hoped he had that somehow covered
The problem is with balancing everything out. If you make the monsters twice as tough then there needs to be enough ammo around, or else then you have to start thinking about adding SG starts. However giving the monsters more speed and damage shouldn't be a problem if the maps are large enough. Anyways I'll leave it up to Herr Board to do as he sees fit.
Just one note about linking to two (or more) files in one ZIP - it's fine in the forum but not recommended for servers, as GetWAD only processes one thing at a time and would have to download the archive once for each file it requires. |

Technically...
MM Textfile wrote: | Most levels were made for co-op play, all levels are playable alone as well. |
The monsters are regular speed/damage/health. I want to see how bomb_x deals with ammo balance in cooperative mode without any other meddling DM flags. It's like that one scientific principle: test one variable at a time. |

Yes that's right kids, the 'S' in ZDS actually stands for 'Science', not 'Sessions'! |

my server looks ready to go. hope i get to play this week
i separated mm_allup.zip into mm.zip and mmmus.zip so getwad would work. since i host all of the wad's used in my games on my own server, this should not pose a problem. |

The maps weren't too difficult on cooperative mode. I'd consider using these firearms again coupled with some monster strengthening DMflags for any wads with smaller monster encounters like MM. The guns are all pretty awesome and the maps were of course enjoyable. My only gripe was that those monsters had a habit of dying too quickly once everyone started shooting at them. I think one SSG volley was enough to one-shot a revenant.
For the servers, I'd like to thank Unfy, Krawa, and Deathbr1nger (even though his had Nightmare mode enabled ). |

Found plenty of ammo but never the weapon itself to use
I stuck around for a good while on this sesh but I found it very frustrating, mainly because I don't want to be having to flex my grey muscle on puzzles at that time of the morning. Was glad the weapon mod worked without a hitch, but between that and the 8-10 players in the server then there just weren't enough monsters to go around on a lot of maps as they were often the ones hopelessly outnumbered. I think I set a new personal best for lack of deaths as a result - which sounds cool but just meant I was wandering around bored a lot of the time.
Maybe we should have played on Death's server! |

Good stuff. Only played half of the maps on SP. Didn't expect it to turn into a massive monster density wad. |
