Sort of a typical type of thread i know. But i'm interested in seeing what other people are watching. I'm hoping this can become a good source for recommendations and such. Just post what you've seen, maybe give it a rating or even write a little summary of what you thought of the film. I'll start with this little flick i just saw:

To Live and Die in L.A.(1985)

Wow what a great movie this was. Notorious mainly for its amazing chase scene, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's the only stand out scene of the film. The film itself is rich with 80s atmosphere; From the clothing, to the music, to even the flashy cars, its got it all. Manhunter has a very similar feel to this film. The connections don't end there though, the lead from both films are played by William Petersen of CSI fame.

All the characters in TLADILA are different breeds of scumbag and very unlikeable; You got the misogynist main lead who's literally willing to do anything to take down the sleazy money counterfeiter(played by Willem Dafoe) for killing his partner. John Tutoru makes a cameo playing a wipeless turd of a fronter for Dafoe. I was really surprised at how exciting this movie turned out to be. Came in expecting some 80s cheese, ended up with some 80s freshness.

I recommend this flick to anyone that's still stuck in the 80s or still sporting a pastel suit.

Verdict: A

(Grand Theft Auto Vice City and San Andreas pay homage to this movie on more then one instance)

The day before I watched Enemy at the Gates which is one of my all time favourite movies. I give it an A. I ain't doing a full review, fuck that. It's just good, trust me.

The Dead Zone (1983)

a Stephen King story adapted by David Cronenberg. a schoolteacher (Christopher Walken) goes into coma after a car crash and when he wakes up a few years later, he's able to see glimpses of future. he helps find a serial killer, gets famous as a clairvoyant, ponders the moral aspects of what he's doing with his gift while his health deteriorates... then he mans up and goes against a presidential candidate (Martin Sheen)who he saw.. err, no spoilers i guess. the idea was pretty thought-provoking, the outcome was satisfying.

this movie isn't as warped as your usual cronenberg, save for the scissors scene, ew. it's modest, low profile and story oriented, although i haven't read the book, so can't tell how faithful it is. still maybe the best king adaptation i've seen, they usually suck badly. :) walken is CREEPY, sheen is very slick, the rest of the cast is just some background for these two guys.

verdict: 7 or 8, depends whether i view it as 'that was very well done!' or 'yeah, but nothing extra special, so don't overrate'.

Fire It Up

Whats to say? It was your typical cheerleader movie. Rival teams duke it out, there is nakedness, guys and girls making out, girls and...girls making out. Hot guys, hot girls, annoying moments, funny moments. Not sure how many guys would watch this movie, except to see the chicks...but I enjoyed it as much as all the other cheerleader movies going around.

Yes dew! I got this sucker PVR'D. Uh oh, scissors you say? I can only imagine how cronenberg puts those scissors to use. I'm sure it'll resemble something like the pain olympics.

Xmen Origins. The effects were seriously bad. Even Wolverine's claws looked like bits of plastic. The film was generally ok though.

The very last film I watched at home from start to finish without interruptions was Red Dragon, the prequel to Silence of The Lambs. I really wish only those two movies in the series existed, because Hannibal (chronological sequel to SOTL) sucked imo.

I give Red Dragon a solid A Smile

Ocean's Eleven. It's surprising when such a star-studded cast doesn't fuck up a movie, like most of them have been known to do

Taken

Staring Liam Neeson, Taken is an action-packed thriller with a very up-beat tempo. It never slows down or ends up becoming too dialogue chattered. Every scene experiences some sort of action or conflict that will keep you at the edge of your seat wondering what happens next.

It begins with Liam Neeson, as Bryan Mills--a former spy--buying his daughter a birthday present. He meets her at the house of his ex-wife to present her with her gift. The tension between Bryan and his ex-wife and mother of his child is apparent. As a former spy, the job consumed the majority of his life and he never had the opportunity to be the father he wanted due to it. Nonetheless, him and his daughter still had a good connection.

Soon after, his daughter wishes to travel on a "trip to Paris, France" which--without Bryan knowing--actually is an European U2 tour. At first, he prohibits her but after some discussion with the ex, he permits it with conditions involved.

She soon arrives to Paris with her friend to meet a kid who is involved with an international mafia whom profits off of kidnapping young teenagers by drugging and prostituting them. Of course they do not know this and foolishly allow him to ride in the taxi with them on the way to their apartment. After they get home, he heads off and they go into the apartment to relax and listen to music.

Following that, Bryans daughter goes to call him but almost as soon as she connects with him, she witnesses her friend being kidnapped by two grown men in typical robber clothing and panics. He gives her advice on how to help him find her once she is kidnapped and only has the conversation he has with the kidnappers after they take his daughter to go off of.

Can Bryan crack all the clues and find his daughter and her friend in the short time gap he has before it's too late?

Critique

I honestly thought this turned out to be a pretty good movie. It's suspenseful and as mentioned in my summary above, it has a very good pace and never yields a dull moment. Liam Neeson shows the world that he still has it in this and does a great job portraying a highly-skilled ex-spy with a mission.

It holds a few plot twists and keeps you guessing at some points. Although it is a typical rogue man-on-a-mission movie to retrive his daughter from crooks, it keeps a good plot throughout and never goes off course. I'd suggest taking the time to watch this if you're into action/suspense movies as I don't believe you'll be disappointed.

Overall, I'd give it an 8/10.

Whitey: If you didn't already see it you should give Michael Mann's 'Thief' a spin Wink

Totally agreed. And yeah this was definitely pretty mainstream for Cronenberg at the time. I wish he'd go back to doing bodyhorror sometime.
But I'll watch Chris Walken in anything Laughing

Uh do you have a rating to go with that? I bought this on VHS - yes, that long ago! - and still have never gotten around to watching it. Gimme some motivation here!

Manhunter>Red Dragon Cool

For me the last things I saw were:
At the cinema - Terminator: Salvation
Didn't deserve the bad reception it got in the US. Thankfully it didn't get the same anywhere else. I was worried from the trailers that it was gonna look too much like Transformers but the goofy newer models of Terminator didn't get too much screentime.
Bale is intense and spellbinding as always, the guy they got for Kyle Reese was some nice casting and the CG Ahnuld is a real treat. As for the story? Predictable and patchy but who really goes to see a Terminator flick for that?! Laughing

On TV - Red Eye
This Wes Craven flick was actually better than I expected.
Synopis: woman gets stuck on a plane with a guy who means her and her immediate family harm. Cillian Murphy plays the antagonist which is no bad thing as he's very versatile and Rachel McAdams makes a pretty respectable slashee. The only letdown was that Brian Cox doesn't get to do much other than sleep and be unconscious, but this is all about the dynamic between bad guy and victim. Ending seemed a bit drab but overall I enjoyed it.

Angels & Demons (2009)
When Robert Langdon discovers evidence of the resurgence of an ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati -- the most powerful underground organization in history -- he also faces a deadly threat to the existence of the secret organization's most despised enemy: the Catholic Church. When Langdon learns that the clock is ticking on an unstoppable Illuminati time bomb, he jets to Rome, where he joins forces with Vittoria Vetra, a beautiful and enigmatic Italian scientist. Embarking on a nonstop hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals and even to the heart of the most secretive vault on earth, Langdon and Vetra will follow a 400-year-old trail of ancient symbols that mark the Vatican's only hope for survival.

My Opinion: Not having seen The Da Vinci Code or read the book, I wasn't sure what to expect going into this, it was a great movie, full of plot twists and cliffhangers, I was never sure what would happen in this movie. Tom Hanks does a great job as proffessor Langdon and Ewan McGregor as the Camerlengo

My Rating: 8/10

Watchmen (2009)
This movie follows ex-super heroes in a 1950's era, where the world is under constant threat of nuclear holocaust. The blue guy pictured above is probably the most badass superhero I've ever seen, Dr. Manhattan. He has the ability to manipulate space and time, and he sees the future, past, and present all at the same time. He's a beast, to put it shortly, regardless of the fact that he is completely naked for most of the movie. The movie can be complex if you go in knowing nothing about it, so I suggest researching the characters a little before watching it. It is a rather long movie, at two hours and 43 minutes if memory serves, but even someone with a short attention span (like myself) can watch it due to the constant plot twists and developments. For the guys, there are a couple of sex scenes in the movie, both of which involve the girl in latex pictured above. It was very funny to see the parents scurry out with their 8 year old sons as the sex scenes came on.

The comlexity of the story makes it a very interesting watch, and it displays some of the most badass heroes I've seen in a long time.

I give it a 10 out of 10 as it is probably one of the best movies I have ever seen (that's not a whole lot of movies, by the way).

You just reminded me of this.

Also; I would have to disagree with you, the comedian is definitely more bad-ass. But it was a pretty good movie, a friend of mine swears the movie is better than the novel.
