If you never played 3way CTF before what do you need to know? WATCH OUT, THERE'S GREEN GUYS!
And as there's three teams and three flags then it's harder for any one team to carry off the usual 5-0 caveman pwnage that CTF is notorious for.
Perfect for ZDS! Perfect for you!
The second entry into the 3way market is not wentirely a ZDS exclusive as this has had some good play put into it already, but Spacepirate has provided us with a fixed-up version which now makes the 3 bugged maps playable
Game Mode: CTF
WAD: 3waymadness_ZDS
Tskins1a
zvox07a
Maps: 22 (01, 02, 04-06, 09, 10, 12-18, 20-27)
DMFLAGS: 283844 / 33554432
Teams: 3 - pretty important this!
Players: 15 (5on5on5 +1 spectator slot) - set max players per team to 5 or autobalance it
Other stuff: NM skill, 5 flags, 10 mins on the clock and map voting.
Date: 27th June 2009
Time: 7:30pm UK Time / 9:00 pm EST
Locations: Locations: L@P/XXX/ Unfy/NODE-3/3-BET
See ya there

OMG Geit posting a bit? Does this mean you'll be showing up on Saturday?
And argh, guess I deserved that for making such a deal of the banners. There was too much sun on the screen when I was making that one! |

Sorry I can't come! I need to go and cheer for Aap at the big artgang show. Bring his animation to a glorious victory!
However, I could work my DIGITAL skills and be making some art that can fit there next week. Would you like that perhaps?

I believe my (Unfy) servers are setup, lemme know if there's a problem.
Another weekend I'll have to skip out on playing... have the 6yo squirt all weekend. I *might* be able to make next weekend, doubtful (holiday here in the States).
Good luck everyone! |

Well one big problem I see is that it's only set up for 2 teams
In other news I flubbed it with teh vox. I coulda sworn UTvox had 4way support but it doesn't so can we all go with zvox07a instead please? |

Yeah I mean wtf guys it's not that hard to figure out is it? Especially with a 'ZDS' on the end of the name of the file we're using
And not that any business is bad but why at 2am were we struggling to get players into the US server while the Euro one was full? I'm obviously a Euro but I play where the game is meant to be at - it's not like you guys didn't have six and a half hours to play on the Euro side. Krawa has a script which turns his server on a 7:30, maybe I should ask him to add one which turns it off again when the US sesh starts
It was great to get to play the maps that were unworkable before and the map voting was definitely no bad thing when we hit some maps with only 6 players. Needed more Ducky but we had some excellent games otherwise |

I don't know if it was just me, but I kept starting out in other team's bases. Pretty close to the flag and fairly far from my own. Very confusing time. In my opinion a lot of the layouts were overly complicated as well(though that goes away reletivly quick) Even still, accessibility should be a priority whilst building a map. A couple maps had weird lifts or odd halls also hidden closet rooms and all this other strangeness which was compounded by the 3rd team aspect. The biggest thing for me, is that I actually tend to look over most of the maps before zds just to get an idea. No acception here, however the confusion remained and the levels seemed so clusterfucky that I had a hard time adjusting. I'm sure the same can be said for a lot of gamers who went into zds or played 3way in general.
Sorry for the ramble, hope you can discern something helpful to development from that. |

Yeah I think it can Alf.
With 2way CTF you tend to have more straightforward A->B layouts but with the rotation of 3way and consequently having the sides of the bases nearer to each other there is more of a temptation to add direct (or not so direct) passages between the bases rather than having everything channeled through a central area. And yes, this leads to confusion in 3way as due to a lack of adequate visibility or signposting then players can very easily find themselves to have accidentally wandered into the wrong base (or just have no freaking clue where they are).
Maps with simple isolated bases connected only at the map centre are gameplay gold, providing they are not too simple. But there's only so many ways you can do this and players would surely become bored if every map was that straightforward, and so people try to get creative but that's when the layouts can become too complex to cope with.
Which do you feel are the worst offenders?

That sounds particularly worrisome, but can't say I saw it myself. |

map04 has the most problems in my mind, the flow is extremely broken, the long windows should be halls, it also seemed to have the most misplaced spawns.
On another note, map09 has a lot of bleeding lines, counted 7 areas in need of attention in the blue base alone. |

Yep. 3 way is a whole new game mode where a lot more navigation is needed. Or atleast, 'learning' where to go. In 2way like cybie said, is very easy A > B. But now you need to look at, wich team has wich flag, wich base I am in and where I need to go. So I think you just need to keep playing and this clusterfucky will dissapear as you will learn the maps AND the gamemode.
I have no idea why you are so negative about the layouts or accessibility, all maps were tested and edited, all maps are in my opinion high quality. Almost as high as Tantrum 2000.
And what the hell do you mean with this 'strangeness' ???????
I do agree with map04 there. It is a very complicated map. Maybe a little more navigation with arrows or something would help? |
