so. the czech ctf championship happened. ten teams from nine clans signed in and the battles lasted for three months. the finale was played this sunday and it's all over. for greater justice, i wanted to share the news with the rest of the world.

the games were played in classic style: each team chose two maps from zdctf1,2,3 and played red in them. no overtime, victory by maps won or sudden death in map01 in case of a tie /this was specified after SM won over AB by flag count in the very first match, which spawned heated discussions/.

two groups with five teams were formed and played league system to eliminate one. these matches showed the difference between clans' levels and usually ended 4:0. the one important exception to that was the AB vs SM match. this got extremely wild, as multiple flags got scored at last minutes when SM tied in map16 from 3-1 to 3-3, or when AB came back from 1-4 to 5-4 at map04. SM won by two flags difference, because only Funebrak pointed out to this obsolete rule before the tourney started and noone took him seriously Smile AB immediatelly became the main competitor of SM for total victory. anyways, at the end of basic groups, both WW teams were knocked out and two groups were reformed in 1a 2b 3a 4b manner.

quarterfinals
quarterfinals map results are here.
two important matches at this point: BK vs DH fighting for the second semi spot in their group and AB vs PRE competing for the first place /which guaranteed avoiding SM in semis Wink /
BK /Graim, cmela-k, Bulb/ vs DH /Vody, Libor, dew/ was a tight defensive game with very few flags scored, but DH managed to camp their close lead at all four maps Cool
AB /Funebrak, czegi, Spirit_Crusader/ vs PRE /mr.twister, hokis, Titan/ is now stuff of myths. oblacek was down at that moment, so the match relocated to gamepark. that was a very bad move and demos for two maps got corrupted. AB won 3-1 and the drama started, because PRE accused AB of shameless camping and threatened to leave the tourney in disgust. AB countered that the camp at map04 /recorded/ was only a revenge for previous PRE-camp at map16 /unrecorded Smile/.
anyways, SM breezed through to semis with only 3 maps lost so far, to face PRE and AB earned DH. other teams /BK, FM, ID, par/ left in their wake.

semis
paradoxically not interesting. both SM and AB smited their opponents with constant pressure and better teamwork. scary results of the 5-1 type on all maps /well, DH won map24, but at 3-0 it hardly mattered/.

bronze medal match
the losers of the semis swallowed their pride and got on with their final fight. it was the reprise of basic groups clash, where PRE dominated. DH had to sub Libor with Bubuss as the famous b10 camper left for denmark studies. anyways, a heartstopping match got produced. in numbers:
PRE: mr.twister, hokis, Titan vs. DH: Vody, dew, Bubuss
04 ... 4-4
09 ... 5-3 PRE
24 ... 3-3
27 ... 4-4
PRE was better at map09 and delivered the only decisive victory. DH might have won 04 or 24 but produced fatal errors at critical stages and was left with desperate chase for a counter victory. it was quite a wild game with constant map stealing on both sides and i'm glad i was part of it Twisted Evil

finals
this match got a huge crowd of spectators as the battle of the year was expected Smile both teams were very conservative in their map choice throughout the tourney and selected their 'power maps'.. 01 and 07 for AB, 08 and 09 for SM. again, the statistics:
SM: Draza_Jr, Darg, Dopefish vs. AB: Funebrak, czegi, Spirit_Crusader
08 ... 5-1 SM
09 ... 4-1 SM
01 ... 5-2 SM
07 ... 4-3 SM
well, wow. maybe AB were a bit nervous. or maybe they lacked the element of surprise from the first match. SM introduced total inferno. map08 was firmly in their hands. 09 was a game par excellence, an equal game where one action decided the fates. czegi was too hasty with bringing the flag to equalize for 2-2 and draza showed why he's the best european ctf player /imho/ and stoically saved as the last obstacle in the way and then scored himself. 01 showed desperate AB offensive which was all too easy to exploit for such experienced old dogs as SM. 07 was just for funs then Smile

soooo....
1. SM
2. AB
3. PRE

GGs! congratulations, jubilations, hail to the king and all that stuff Smile
if you're interested in demos, step right here. you can probably guess that the top one is the finals, the second one is the 3rd place match, etc.

wow, i'm exhausted Smile

Yeh well done lads. CZ leading the way as usual. Congrats to SM. And a great report Dew you sexy bastard.

We're doing a similar thing at the moment, but it's a 1on1 tourney for GB players.

welkin it's a tempting idea, but i doubt it would work out. this tourney was organized by houbar from <id> and it was a bitch to manage. some teams had more 'relaxed' morale when concerning match deadlines and the whole tourney took much much longer than anticipated. i can only assume that an euro championship would a/ never got completed, b/ suffer from dqs.
