TBH Mortal does have a point, if they upload a demo you get an advantage Draza.

If in tourneys people were required to upload a demo after every match then it would be a level playing field.

As I've said before, demos should be uploaded by the winners to make sure everything is above board.

TBH I never watch demos or analyze them to get an advantage for a match. In fact none of SM does.

Anyway I never insisted on uploading a demo after the match. I just wanted someone to record it in case of possible difficulties, so it can be used as a proof. Still if you guys want to have such rule, we can simply add it.

And like Darg said: demo´s available, so the only thing needed is Darg Smile

It's only a bloody game. Believe it or not all teams have a similar goal - score flags!

If there are a few shortcuts like dropping the flag near a wall you can pick it up through, then I'm sure y'all already know those tricks Very Happy

Why then do teams of similar individual skill level get dominated by another?

Because of organisation and tactics. I've played Doom since 1993 and still see new things appear on certain maps.

That aside, it seems common sense that you could take advantage of how someone plays via a demo and use that knowledge to then win. People do this in 1on1 all the time, I'm sure the same principal would work in CTF.

I was talking generally, I could probably name 30 odd players from different countries across europe who are all on par individually, but then SM and Chaos would probably beat any combination of them. Not necessarily because individually they are that much better than others, but more so because they are organised.

The best example I can probably think of is GB. Topcat, Englander and WeaponX are probably as good as anyone, but because other teams are more organised, they win. Seems common sense to me that organisation wins you games, surely you dont think that the top CTF teams play without tactics?

Here's 30 off the top of my head, there are many more at about the same level:

Artillery
Bubuss
Bulb
Czegi
Darg
Dew
Draza
Englander
Finney
FSN
Funerbrak
Graim
H4xxxish
Jackinthebox
Jemarbuzy
Killer
Master
Mortalogy
Nokturne
Scylla
Spirit
Titan
Tennie
Topcat
Tuomio
Turska
Ufon
Vain
Welkin
Xsnake

As good as these players are, if they play against a team with slightly lesser skills but better organisation, they'll lose imo.

I know I don't belong in this forum, but I actually have something interesting to say!

Since I've been playing in the IDL since season 1, I've seen a lot of teams formed that have had some really great players. Many times, these teams have lost/had a horrible season. The reason being is that you can't just throw players together despite individual skill and expect them to win. You need teamwork.

I know it seems like I'm stating the obvious (to those of us who use our brains during CTF, I am Razz) but you'd be surprised how many people go out there without a real plan or having practiced together expecting to win only to lose.

Teamwork is important, but chemistry is just as important. And you have to have brain for CTF(team thinking), which requires a different sort of skills than duels do for example. You have to be able to think in broader context, immediately. Lots of guys can't do that, a lot of them are on the thad's list.
You may be the best fragger yet of very little asset to your team when you use this skill in an ineffective way. Sorry for the OFFTOPIC.

thanks for the praise, draza, but luck had nothing to do with it :) we did all we could by winning 03 and 22. we did have upper hand in both and probably could repeat the victory there /i was screaming rather unpleasantly on ts when you did the doubleflag for 4-3 :)/, but no way we could win the rest. 27 was a challenge only when we camped for 0-0 and we knew well we can't hold it for 15 minutes :) and the double result on 01 just says it all - ballero's defence was incredible, hats off to the man :)

Looks like it was tough, ending up in tiebreaker map. Good job both teams, I think DH surprised SM there a bit.

i'm seriously growing tired of having to remind our other team's members to set a date.. they log online on a very random and unpredictable basis and show practically no interest in making some arrangement. unfortunatelly, as far as i can say, the same goes for their chaos counterparts. i see only chillsing on regular basis.
i wash my hands of being the middle guy, it's not worth it :-/

Is there any intention left to finish this tourney? Double DQ or bleed to death?

i don't believe our other team will get together in some sensible time. they're just too random and they just don't care enough. please dq them so the chaos guys can beat themselves senseless :)
