ok so it's Coop time again this week folks and i've got a really cool but quite unknown set of maps for us!
it's a TC called Strain which dates back to '97 but i've only ever seen it being run here a couple of times due to incompatibility problems. Worst-vd-plas found a fixed version of it so we're gonna have some fun with it this weekend Smile

Game Mode: COOP
WADs: StrainFix and Strain_Jive
needs to run both, StrainFix first, Strain_Jive after.
also, Worst recommends something like TSKINS1E to avoid confusion over the players looking like one of the enemies (although people seem to cope in Coopbuild *shrug*
Maps: 01, 03-16, 18-20, 23, 25-32
DMFLAGS: 67620 / 131136
Skill: 4 (no timelimit or teamdamage)
Players: 8 (2 spectator slots)
Date: Saturday, October 13th
Time: 7:30pm UK Time / 9:00 pm EST
Location: [THE] / [CHiP] / Red Nexus / Doomed Earth

some screenshots to whet your appetites::

and you can see more and read the full backstory here

8 players will, heh, probly put a strain on some of these maps but this really needs to be seen and hopefully most people will have the sense to head to the other server if it looks too chaotic. also, we're gonna play the maplist by ear, hopefully someone will be around to Rcon it out of any troublespots Smile

maps: map02, map17, map21, map22 and map24 can get rather easily stuck in multiplayer. Confused

so the maplist is better off: map01, map03-map16, map18-map20, map23, map25-map32

Also some skins like tskins1e could be good to avoid confusion, as the player base sprites have been replaced in strain with the modified chaingunner sprites Razz

I thought Zdaemon was about "newer wads"? Looks interesting nonetheless. Very Happy

newer? well had you seen this or played it on Zdaemon before? if not then it's new to you isn't it?
yes, agewise then it's older than i initially thought but it really needs to be on some servers and besides, most modern coop is either no good for larger numbers of players or just plain crap.

and many thanks for your work Worst! (first post edited)

Never seen this WAD before, I think I'm going to play it a few minutes before going in to prevent surprises, etc. I'll try to be there even if it's on saturday Razz

Newer, underplayed, it doesn't really matter. The real goal here is to try and get a community full of rather stubborn people when it comes to new wads, to try something new Razz. Not to mention make these wads more popular!

It was cool, just that. I actually hit the exit button a couple of times and killed lots of monsters, maps are cool, and great strategy added. Some monsters changes were pretty good like the imp on steroids, the red pinkies (some1 smell the irony?) and those floating thingys.

The only thing that actually bother me was the BFG since the shots were invisible lot of people spam the maps with that thing.

Nice session I had fun Cool

i saw and heard that the Euro ZDS picked up a few folks this time.

US was rocking once more and it was all still playable with 8 people. we got 2hrs out of it until we hit the bugged map18 Very Happy
i've edited the server settings i had accordingly and will run this on CHiP again sometime real soon.

i'm talking with Worsty about maybe making a real fixed version of this too so that all the maps are playable and the DM weapons are gone.
