Name: Base 499
Filename: base499.wad
Gametype: 1on1 *** D E A T H M AT C H ***
Maps Replaced: map01
New Music/Sounds/GFX: New sky and music, thats about it
Build Time: 12 hours
URL: What URL?
A recent mega mapping project of 32 maps in 24 hours has actually rocketed me back into mapping. And thus, after 12 hours of labouring, I have created this!
Killingblair has lovingly put up a server for it already, (Red Nexus #15) which is fantastic if you want to test it there.

Enjoyable map -- I just had a good 1on1 with another player on the server I saw 1 flaw with your flat usage, on top of the computer screen that extruded from the ground in the out door area -- using a tech flat would have been better, but that was really it.
My main gripe though -- please for heaven sakes -- move the weapons around a bit! I got killed plenty of times because I tripped on a gun I didn't want It's annoying having an ssg and being forced to downgrade to a boomstick when you don't want it :/ I found myself intentionally lingering around specific areas, simply on account of not wanting to snag myself on a gun.
Apart from that, 'twas a great little 1on1 map, and I had fun with it |

Haha, yeah, I probably just plain overlooked it, but I'm too lazy to fix that unless I find a huge thing I need to fix to justify a new version.

Interesting bit there. I use PWO switching, and I suppose I forgot to think about those who use plain autoswitch. Whoops! Thanks for pointing this out. I'm not likely to change it for this map, but if I make more in the future I might look into it. Thanks for the opinion! |

good solid map!
only thing i'd argue with is having the teleport when you grab the BFG. maybe it's hard enough to make the run to the teleport after you hit the switch in the first place without getting blasted but i'd have prefered it to be more dead-endy when reached too.
the setup as it is makes it too much of straight run from plasma to BFG i think.
and yeah Ballblue had a point about those SGs in the middle of narrow corridors
oh and i hate that damn stock sky. see the bits between the stars? they should be BLACK, not all milky like that. sorry, i know you just dragged it from someotherplace but i really do hate the look of it
could you resubmit it with a text file in the zip DD? s'just kinda a requirement around here.
doesn't have to be a novel, just copy the basics you wrote in your first post and recommended DMFLAGS (or even just rough guidelines - stuff like 'not ideal for weaponswitching')
thanks. |

I reuploaded it with a text file, basically the same one I was gonna upload to Doomworld with. It contains enough info!
And who said you had to teleport when you grabbed the BFG? *whistles*
I never knew someone could hate a starry sky with such venom! Thanks for the candid opinion though, I appreciate it! |

MUHAHAHA!
And yes, this map is quite fun! I tried it out and it has a real nice flow to it. There are some good tricks that can be found on this map and it provides a nice, fun battle. Another thing I like is the fact that that entire map is used quite frequently in the match, and the weapon variations are great! |

Wow, this is a really nice map, DD. I like the techo and it feels like a map made by someone who has rabies. The textrures were put in nicely and the music certainly fits the map. It seems like it would have a nice, movable pace to it as well. Great work, sir! |

Alright! I did some fixing. Let me number them off.
1. Hated the wadname, I gave it a cool one, especially since I changed it 500 times already.
2. Adjusted the torches in the river room so you don't get stuck on them as much when going for RL.
3. Made the openings to the river room a little wider cause I noticed people getting stuck there too.
4. Replaced the outside room's plasma with a medkit for balancing.
5. Replaced the hallway SGs with SSGs.
6. Replaced the middle platform's SSG with an SG.
7. Dusted off the grass from the outside room's computer console.
I think that's about it! This version is probably the final one, now. I updated the link in the first post since it essentially is a whole new wad, now. |
