I have seen it done and have triued it myself in other games, but haven't really learned to use it. It does not fit in DooM. It's stupid in Blood too. But in never games no problem.
edit: but if someone likes to use it then go ahead. It's pretty useless in DooM. I don't mind if someone uses it and I don't want it's removal. |

It could come in handy in coop lol. It's tough to use because it sucks up so much of your health, and its use is very limited in doom. |

You can use Rocket Jump in Doom Legacy. and in coop, you can easily put friendly fire off...then it can't take any of your health. |

Must we take in features of Quake in our beloved Doom? Though it is optional, but I can never understand why people cannot improve Doom in its own way without distraction inherited from other games, namely Quake. |

id just like to say,
i dont play doom, although im one of those people who aspires to add a little more credibility to my gaming resume by lending my support to quake1, blood doom etc..kind of in the same way a film student will only watch films made in 1950s poland without subtitles... lame.. (you people used the word first). My point being, there seems to be a schism in the apparently dedicated followers of the doom revival with regards to the (cue projectile vomiting) BFG!! :O:O:O .
person a) It's in doom, so like it or lump it, pretty boy. BRING ON THE CARNAGE!!

what i meant to say was: doom is what you want it to be...all doom players have a passion or at least a soft spot for the thing, so all you need to do is be faithful to that motivation, not scrambling to satisfy an esoteric doctrine that aspires to be '100 percent accurate while updating...' blah blah..if people dislike the bfg (the players with skill) disable it. the resultant backlash will tell you whether it was a good move.
The sad thing is; people WILL be upset if you take away the bfg. there go my hopes of finding some elitism in this oldest of old skools. a big buncha bfg whores and not much else. The huge damage of the bfg promotes spam blah blah, with only pee shooters, your skills would soar. instead its all about running for the bfg. whatever, its your funeral.
now how do i take the safety off? ah thats it...the green looks so pretty whats that noise? i can smell burning. ARGH! |

about the rj..its not doom, at all. mouselook is kinda ok, so i jump :S but rj? lol..if you think about it as a mod, as a redefinition gameplay with a solidly authentic core of doom, its ok i guess, but to have it in all the servers as part of the engine? nah...may as well put strafe jumping :/ why not make a defrag mod? wooooo |
