Nanananana.. Doomg.. *ehem* Batman!

You guessed right! This weekend it's time for Batman Doom.
The modification that should have been an official game.


Unfortunately it has always remained a Doom modification.
But that doesn't make it any less special! This product is truly a masterpiece.
The creators of the modification, are three brothers that founded a company together and called it ACE Team.
After Batman Doom they went on to work on games like Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break, Zeno Clash and more.
And that was to be expected after the release of Batman Doom, the passion and the time that went into it is just crazy.
It showed that the brothers had a lot more to offer.

They didn't have the source code to the Doom engine so they did everything through DeHackEd. They were so limited in making
their game and yet through their creativity and perseverance they managed to pull offsome crazy things that hadn't been seen before within the Doom engine.
Which all together make it a fantastic and unique experience!

Anyway, enough rambling.. To the batmobile!

I remember playing AliensTC back in the day, but I never played Batman Doom before. Been playing a lot more SP these days so this post gave me cause to give it a try at long last Smile

I found it a bit frustrating - and very tough in places - but it's also pretty rewarding, with every level being a different scenario - so it never feels as though you are just grinding through the levels. Even with the advances in source port tech over the years, I still found some of the effects used in this mod to be quite wowsome.

Only things I felt could maybe be fixed (if there's going to be another update) are:
The message that pops up each time you fire the shotgun, about the Bossdeath codepointer.
The wall decal that appears when a Smoke Bomb explodes - it is still BFG green colour, which looks weird.
The Smoke Bombs themselves... the pickups give the player way too many of them and they are so dangerous to the player. Could the number granted be reduced, and the blast radius also lessened a bit?

Otherwise, you have done a fantastic job getting this working here Very Happy

While playing through the game with "bm_zuberfix_v17 batman_player" loaded, I havn't been able to replicate the above.

Were you playing in C/S or SP mode in this instance?

Were only the above wads loaded in this case? If not, which others were included?

Could you paste the full codepointer message that was received if possible?

If client logging is needed to capture this case, specify the following in the "Extra Params" field in the Single Player dialogue:
+logfile "%DATE%_%TIME%_%WAD%.txt"

Hey Dom, Vvry thorough and speedy service you got going on there.
The message I had been receiving in SP mode was "DEH Error: State 659: The 'BossDeath' codepointer cannot be used on a weapon! 'Shotgun'"
On the fifth occurence it added "(this notice is now being suppressed - check your dehacked lumps(s))" and then it wasn't seen again.

It was v15 I was running as, at the time, that was the most recent build that had been uploaded. I'm happy to report that this is no longer the case in v17 Very Happy

Thanks the feedback CS, always appreciated.
Last ZDS I also noticed the BFG decals on the smokebomb projectiles as well as the sniper dude being displayed as a decal for the flame projectile Laughing.

As for the The Smoke Bombs themselves, can definitely balance those a bit better and see if I can tinker with the radius/damage.

The message about the A_BossDeath codepointer has been fixed in v17, hence why you didn't get it with v17 Domains. The problem was that the gun accessed a state that had the A_BossDeath codepointer bound to it.


Fixes for v17 were:

Code:

- Firing sounds for both the Terrorist and the Thief didn't work in C/S, fixed.
- Azrael's Gloves (shotgun) no longer shows the codepointer warning.
- Shuriken Glove (chaingun) now plays the proper firing sound.
- Croc (Map04 boss) is now able to pickup stones and throw them at the player (also works in C/S) -  oof that was nasty.
- Map25 didn't exit upon killing the Joker, fixed.
- Removed the pompous, self-praising hudmessages from the Batcaves.
- Map15 fire traps didn't work, temporary workaround.
- The Rocketeer now plays a firing sound.


Fixes incoming for v18:

Code:

- Remove BFG decal from The Smoke Bombs.
- Change camera height for batman (scale the enemies back to their original size).
- Map08 still broken, blue key missing.
- Map12 weird spawns in C/S.
- Farmer not firing properly in C/S.
- Map20 kaputt?
- Bane his animations are broken.
- Chopper has no firing sound.
- Balance ammo pickup amount for The Smoke Bombs.
- Make The Smoke Bombs less dangerous to the player.
- Fire projectiles display the Sniper dude as decal.


Definitely let me know if you find something else.
