Well, if we clear one message in [STRINGS] section of DEHACKED zdaemon will print default strings and ignore all other changes after first empty string:
Code:
[STRINGS]
GOTPLASMA = PLASMA # in game will print: PLASMA
GOTLAUNCHER = "" # in game will print: ""
GOTROCKBOX =  # in game will print: Picked up a box of rockets.
GOTBFG9000 = BFG # in game will print: You got the BFG9000!  Oh, yes.

In some cases it is necessary not to print certain messages at all.

For example, in my "survival instagib" project the console is filled to ~90% of annoying messages: <Picked up a health bonus.> and <Picked up an armor bonus.>.

Clear strings to nothing with \0. That null character ends the string.

Code:
[STRINGS]
GOTCHAINGUN = \0
GOTPLASMA = PLASMA
GOTLAUNCHER = ""
GOTROCKBOX =
GOTBFG9000 = BFG
