In SP mode: the monster following the path nodes plays its chase state, even when does not have valid target (so it actually looks like it is moving instead of showing the stuck animation of spawn state). This is correct behavior.

In online mode: the monster following the path nodes plays its spawn state when does not have valid target. This is incorrect and deviates from SP behavior.

Maybe this bug is down to deeper issues, because in online mode monsters sometimes still tend to show wrong states. Most of the time it is noticeable with arch vile resurrection. A case of this is claimed to be fixed in 1.08-09 line of releases.

158. Fixed a problem where the monsters would sometimes not appear in
     their attacking state (when they were in fact attacking) after
     getting shot.


I'll try to catch a demo showing off that.

I can confirm this issue. Enemies follow the path but play "Initial/Spawn" states instead of "Chase" states.

Good recognizable the states of the Baron (compared SP to online).
