|
|
Allow the client to choose which chat sound they wish to hear: 'doom.wad' (minimalistic "tick"); 'doom2.wad'; or 'default' (E.g., brit10 horrible whistle sound, or whatever comes with whatever pwads you play.)
Could be added to sounds or player setup menus; or just as a cvar. |

How would both the Doom and Doom 2 sounds be available at the same time? Only one of the IWADs gets loaded... |

doom vs doom2 is impossible as EQ says; doom2 vs brit10 or whatever.... there is a separate chat volume. It was made especially for wads like those. Use it. |

I could suggest to create "defchatsnd.wad" ("default chat sound") and load it on servers with such wads. |

doom 1 only has the tick sound. doom 2 has both the radio and the tick sound.
most wads replace the radio sound in doom2. so the only option i could think of would be to switch between default (radio or whatever replaced it) and tick. |

Sorry, no. That's quite frivolous considering all the other *real* things that need to be done. |

If you are so bothered by the sound, just turn chat off. Like something really important is being said during brit unless someone says: GAJAJAAJAJAJAJJA or XDDDDDDDD. That something you really not want to miss off course. |

I never play brit10, that was just an example for one possible option to this suggestion. Read the OP again and you'll see that.
For those who started zdaemon in this brit10 era: the loss of that sound would kill nostalgia. They probably like it. I wouldn't want to not use the dwango5 chat sound in dwango5, for example. So whenever I play there, I'd use that d5 sound.
Anyway what I should have mentioned in the OP: the doom 'tink' sound is shorter in length and loudness, but still easy enough to hear to follow chat. The option would be nice for those who prefer it to radio of the dominant IWAD. |

This is basically there, only much better, since b28.
Code: | 44. New snd_chat, snd_teamchat, snd_privchat CVARs that affect the sound
played on reception of different types of chat messages. The sounds
default to those of the IWAD, but one can select the doom 1 chat sound
or one of several zdaemon-specific sounds residing in zdaemon.wad.
These CVARs supercede cl_prefertink introduced in b27. |
