I have 2 requests for the Survival mode. I hope this has not been posted yet :/

1) People that ran out of lives during a game should not be able to callvote a new map. The game is called survival, if you don't then sit the game out until people who actually survived finished the map or just go away.

2) Normally in doom2 it used to be that when you hit the archvile at an exact moment, it would stop its attack (no flames under your feet anymore). After this it has to set in a new attack to kill you. However in survival (and maybe coop too, but I never play this mode, so I dont know) the archvile seems to have quitted its attack, but then it suddenly blasts you anyway. Could this be fixed?

Thanks!

1.
have you seen the voting being abused in survival?

kick voting needs to be enabled because otherwise the last survivor
could block the map by not finishing it. e.g. someone who stands in a
corner and left the computer.

now if people abuse map voting they have to be in a majority and could
abuse kicking too. that means that you only get vote abuse when you
have a majority of malicious players in the server.
at that point it does not matter if you have voting enabled or not.

not sure if restricting reset and map change votes to survivors helps.
if it does dead players should be able to vote yes/no but not be allowed
to call the vote.

whats the difference between a survivor calling the map change vote or a
dead player anyways? the survivor could be bored of the map and wants
to skip it.

now that i think of it its a server configuration problem. the admin should
simply not allow map change votes. survival only needs kick and reset!
and if people start reseting the map because they ran out of lives they
did not get the survival idea. so maybe just restricting the reset case
could help.

2.
the archvile problems have been posted in the bug section already and
can be found here.

Solution to 1.
Don't allow "dead" players to votemap

Well only map reset would maybe not be the best idea too. Because there are some really boring maps, that usually most of the people want to skip, like map11 in pl2 with only Archviles.
I think everybody should be able to vote, but not call the vote. If you're dead just sit it out. Also if you're dead you shouldnt be able to call map reset.
And yes I've seen this dead man callvoting abuse. That's why this occured to me in the first place Smile.

Maybe the server admin should take these maps out of the rotation then.
I still think that map voting destroys the survival idea, because players
will be too impatient to finish the maps after some restarts and use
map voting so they dont have to replay a map.

anyways i'll just summarize the request as it might make sense for
map/reset voting enabled servers.

players that are out of lives in survival mode should not be able
to call map change/reset votes, but still be able to vote yes/no.
kick voting stays the same.

How's things going in this area? With survival becoming more popular, the abuse of callvote increases. Very often if the majority dies they just change the map, so there is no point in calling this mode survival then...

I thought about it some more ...

You have to allow kick votes to the specs in case the last player is idling in the server
if they are not allowed to call reset or map votes.
On the other hand if you are the last player left the specs might call a kick vote, because
they dont want to wait till you finished the map. So as it seems you cant make a
completely abuse free survival server.

Now the examples i gave above involve either one malicious player in the first case (the idling player)
or a majority of malicious players (specs kicking out the last remaining players).

Depending on what is the most likely scenario we will see how to improve the general case.

So this needs more input from players that have first hand experience on what is going on in survival servers.

Perhaps the server can kick somebody automatically if the player is idling for a certain amount of time (say 10 minutes).

But please at least get rid off the callvote for players that have been killed during the game, because this happens quite a lot at the moment.

What about that feature already apparent in CTF? When a player is away for so long (~3min) they become a spectator. That's pretty tasty! Though 3min is cruel.

Something similar is being implemented for coop/survival.

Code:
231. Spectators (ex-players) in survival should not be able to call votes.
