In vanilla Doom, there was a rare bug where if a monster was crushed (hence turned into a pool of blood) by a closing door or ceiling, and then resurrected by an Arch-vile, it would become what is called a "Ghost Monster".

Properties of the ghost monsters include the ability to walk through some walls, and to have a certain degree of invulnerability. More information can be found here.

Now, this bug was fixed in ZDoom quite some time ago, and like all bugs that have interesting side effects, it was considered as a "feature" for some mappers. Unfortunately, this effect is ruined in all ZDoom-derived source ports. I'm requesting that this bug be restored to maintain compatibility with wads where this was not a bug, but a feature! See the list of wads in the above link for some popular wads where this bug is put to good use.

I think I already expressed the sentiment over IRC that ghost monsters are probably not a desirable occurrence in many scenarios. But hey, it is a very cool gameplay obscurity to mess around with. I can't say I feel very strongly one way or the other.

i saw in the zdoom log that they added a compatflag for this some time ago.
if its not too crazy to restore the ghost monster behaviour it will be done.
need to check what this would involve though first.
