A bit late, aren't we. Well, this cannot be rushed. This is big and important, so we tested and investigated and it took some extra time. It's grandslam time, ho ho ho! We'll run this tourney till the end of August so no need to hurry... and don't worry, August tourneys will be there as well. So why all the fussing and idling?
doom2 map01. entryway. The ultimate classic. Yeah, we went there. What else should be worth last year's d5m1 points anyways? The big fat mamma of all duelling is here.
It's a leeeedle bit edited. ;( Me and Titan ran some tests and we added an acid pool behind the ledge spawn, plus we made the garden water corrosive. That's it, no funky zddlava buttons. The map should be exactly as campy and ponderous as ever (says me, ha ha), but the most unreachable, unsolvable camp standoffs are treated (no, not the exit door of STOP IT OMFG). It's not perfect mind you, just almost, but larger edits would ruin the most sacred map evar. I was deathly afraid not to insult the oldschool crowd, on the other hand I wasn't willing to run it 'as is' in a to the death competition. So, pardon for trespassing on holy grounds, we just added air conditioning. /apologetic rant
Oh right, if we get enough participants, there will be Intermediate tournament as well. It'd be nice if you stated your desired tier with registration info!
disregard this, things changed.
LAST DAY EDIT!
Okay, there has been a lengthy (weeks!), very serious ("I hate this, good luck!") backstage discussion. Many great oldschool players considered participating, which was desirable to us, of course. We tried to lean their way as much as possible, but that just widened the gap from others. This is the result of lenghty haggling and a lot of headache.
As a result we are returning to vanilla entryway. The majority wanted it that way.
As a result we won't have enough players for pro/int, but the tourney will run under double elimination system. Freaky seeding shouldn't hurt anyone wishing to play, everyone gets two games at the least.
As a result:
- The opening rounds are BO1 (a plain single match).
- Starting with WB (winner's bracket) quarterfinals (last 8), all matches are BO3 (best of three games), including subsequent LB (loser's bracket) games.
- The grand final is a single BO5 match where the WB finalist enters with an automatic 1-0 lead.
I understand this is a system applied in some modern games (DOTA) and was already used in a past GameZone Doom tourney. This should provide a chance for proper finals without dragging on for too long.
I apologize to everyone signing up under different settings - I will understand if you want to pull out. We tried to get this tourney as big and competitive as possible. The majority of the crowd and, should I say, experts sympathized with vanilla. Thus the only "new" element remaining is the forced respawn.
Let the festivities of tactics and camping and rushing and raging begin!
Rules (Please read them all):
Registration:
Minimum Exp points needed to enter this Tourney - 1000. This is done to keep out aliasers and unreliable players. If you have proven to be reliable, you will be allowed to enter the tournament regardless of your Exp level.
Aliases are no longer allowed. If you have more than one nickname that is used on a regular basis, that's ok; a new nickname purely for the tourney will get you DQ.
It is highly recommended that you include a messenger service as well as an email address in your contact details. They're free to get, and they will greatly increase the chances of getting your games played.
Only sign up if you're sure you can play; we will not tolerate no-shows. Obviously we will be flexible if your internet goes down but do not sign yourself up if you know for a fact you're going to be on holiday for a good chunk of the month.
The registration form is still broken so anyone wishing to play should post here or contact someone with an account here to post for him (contact one of the tourney admins as the last resort). Please include: Name, Location, Contact details (email, msn, etc) and Best time to play.
Playing:
If you fail to turn up for your game, you will be banned from the current tourney as well as the following one.
You must contact your opponent ASAP after you find out who they are and arrange a time to play. If you miss your match and the other player turns up, the above rule applies. If neither player turns up, the above rule also applies.
Post your scores in the tournament thread or PM them to a Tournament Administrator (cybershark, dewww or Nero).
Be sure to post on the forums at least once every round. If your match doesn't get played for whatever reason, then we have no record to what extent both of you tried to contact each other. The result will be a double DQ.
Rematches are no longer allowed. If you have a problem during your match, speak to your apponent to arrange another time as soon as the problem becomes apparent.
Tourney admin must be notified before the end of a round if extra time for playing your match is needed; Failure to do so will result in DQ.
It is highly recommended that both players record demos and take screenshots of the game. It will be easier for the Admins to deal with disputes about matches if all the resources are with them.
Server rules:
Try making a friendly, peaceful agreement on the server choice. If both sides are happy, we're happy and everyone's happy. Good job!
If you can't agree on a server, both players should select two from the official trio (horizon, oblacek, l@p) they're willing to play on. You should have at least one in common. If you're locked in a 1-2 2-1 situation, go into any random server and flip a coin with "callvote flipcoin" to decide.
In case it's impossible for you to play on neutral grounds, play two full matches, on both sides' homefield. Finns might select a finnish server, but weird stuff running from someone's mother's PC won't be allowed. Add frags from both matches and compare them, the bigger total wins. In case of a tie, play another two matches. The 25-25 split matches should not be used, because you need to fully enjoy the fairness of this situation.
If you still have disputes, call an admin to make a decision. But don't expect it to be amicable and fair to everyone, as it's probably impossible at this point.
Special rules:
Forced spawning remains, you should ask your opponent to wait if you need a break. Ask an admin if there's a problem.
If someone is caught camping in the unreachable areas, deliberately delaying the match for unreasonable amounts of time, he will be disqualified after an admin decision. Keep it fair.
