After only just running Nutty a couple weeks back I figured I'd come float another one of mine and Milian's combined efforts. But it's not just because I can, truly I'm looking at the list of stuff to run and the grand order of things and it's just the perfect fit for this week's sesh.

ZodiacDM was a project of Milian's which originally ran for 12 themed maps to represent each of the astrological signs, it eventually expanded to 2 cycles of the zodiac and I felt that the layouts of some of the maps were quite suited towards CTF. So I worked with the existing maps and resources and added fresh stuff where required. My good buddy Cha0tix summed it all up nicely after the last time we ZDSed this with his comment that "These maps should never have been made."

Can't say that I've worked on this pack - or the second one - for sometime, but maybe the stars are ready to align for it again now?

These maps were mainly designed for smaller numbers of players, but we never play too sensible on ZDS do we? So we'll just substitute in a low timelimit so people don't have time to get too pissed off.

And once more I've included the Zodiac music WAD in the lineup also. Milian wrote the music himself and while Zodiac does contain MIDI versions, the zod2emus file has the OGG versions and sounds much more epic. It's a large-ish file but do yourself a favour and grab it before you join the server on Saturday Wink

    Game Mode: CTF
    WADs: zodiac2e
    zodctf-mp1a
    zodctf-zdsaddon - that's the new part!
    UTvox1d
    zod2emus as an optional PWAD.
Make sure they're run in that order too!

    Maps: 18 (02-08, 10, 12-15, 17-19, 22, 23, 25)
    DMFLAGS: 91204 / 8
    Players: 10 (5on5 autobalancing + 2 spectator slots)
    Teams: 2
    Timelimit: 6 mins

When I spotted the zodiac pix, I thought "holy hell, zodiac FFA this week zomfg!!1"; reading on calmed me a bit down that we aren't gonna play this great piece of art, but well, we've had enough of FFAs lately, especially with brit10 16 player FFA last week. Wink

If you look past this pack's madness you will see genius. Now who else out there is a Sagittarius!? I'm still looking for a kindred spirit or something out in the flowing ether and all that.

Oh, and Laughing @ the above post.

Yeah we really need to do the original DM sometime soon too, but you'll find the CTF maps to be just as arty as the FFA Wink

And you know what? I had a thunk earlier about how 12 maps is perhaps a bit small for a ZDS... and how some of those maps are too small for the number of players I'd like...

so I went to see just how much of zodiacCTF mp2 I actually have in a playable form, and was shocked to realise I have another 8 maps which are pretty complete there! Shocked
The maps in that pack were all intended for larger player numbers btw. So I'll knock them into some releasable format and we'll have A FREAKIN' ZDS EXCLUSIVE! Cool

I hope to be able to show up, too, AND to be there while Milian is (possibly / hopefully) on. Gawd, what a bliss unemployment had been ...

I've mailed the man so maybe he'll show again! Although CTF is certainly not a big interest of his.

EDIT:
'tis done! Very Happy

Some of these layouts I'm still a bit unsure about, but they should be quite fine for ZDS. Some of them are gems for any occasion - map03 was almost selected by Thad for the last Vendetta tourney! Cool

One thing which'll probly piss some people off (aside from the monsters) is that there's no jumping for these maps. The originals were not designed for it and neither are these new iterations. Deal with it Razz

(original session details all revised in original post)

omg... *blush*... I'm stalked by ZDS *rofl*

yeah, nice to see this. I'd like to join just to see the new maps, while actually playing CTF is not my cup of coffee. however, i'm playing at a chess tournament atm, and won't be at home tomorrow evening.

good luck to all and have fun.

OMG, Feliz Cumpleaņos Ducky!

A shame about Milian too, and I think Darkthief is absent this weekend also. But the servers should remain up for a few days so maybe we can catch up some day next week? Smile

And now some more gratuitous screenies!

Only 90mins to go Europe!
