In my endless quest for perfection I've been putting off running this again until I had a souped-up new version with added maps - unfortunately one of those happened to be one of my own and so it took forever. Shockingly it's now been a year and a half since we actually played it on ZDS. So many of the folks that are around now completely missed the first time and have probably never even seen a deathball server.

To recap: Deathball is like playing one-flag CTF (or some more traditional team game played on grass, outdoors). There is a ball in the centre of the map which each team must try to take to a score zone in the heart of the opposite team's base/territory. Typically this zone is in the form of a pit which the brave ball runner must dive into and die heroically for the good of their team.
It was invented by Adereth and became a community mapping project. Thus we have maps in here from Adereth and myself alongside Geit, Aap, Lockwolf, Qwaszx, Stewboy, Barbapapa, Op-Cow, Alfred, Spacepirate, Exl and Nestea.

This session mainly goes out to Let who bravely turns up at the Euro sesh most weeks but doesn't have a forum account. This was a request of his that was passed on to me some time back.

    Game Mode: CTF(ish)
    WADs: olio_a1p
    n00b_deathball_resources_7
    facevox2
NOTE they need to be run in this order: Facevox2 n00b_deathball_resources_7 olio_a1p

    Maps: 22 (01-22)
    DMFLAGS: 283716 / 4325376
Players: 14 (max players per team 6)
    Teams: 4 VERY IMPORTANT
    Teamscorelimit: 5
    Time: 10 mins
Other stuff: NM skill, overtime, no team autoaim, kicketty-kick

    Date: 25th July 2009
Time: 7:30pm UK Time / 9:00 pm EST
    Locations: Locations: L@P/XXX/ Unfy/NODE-3/3-BET

Only just released this today so I doubt the dogfather will have it processed in time for Saturday. So can server hosts plz be sure to link to WadHost again?

O M G !!!!!111!1!!

just had a look at the new maps and changes.
it is undeniable that A LOT of work has gone into
this release once again.

there also seems to be a new non-lethal way to score.

hopefully europe will play this zds.

whatever will happen this weekend, this wad needs
to be permanently hosted! maybe L@P?
same goes for the 3way projects.

TODESKUGEL FTW!

Word on the street is that we may possibly have a superspecial secret celebrity guest star dropping by for this session.

Also: seems I might just be able to make the Euro session this week Surprised

Definitely a great session on the US side.

I tried to get some hype going to get people to join, and it seemed like it worked:
Code:
20:50 <[UD]EarthQuake> ZDS in ten.
20:50 <HumanBones> i played during the euro session but the lag got annoying
20:51 <[UD]EarthQuake> That's why you're going to play in 9 minutes.
20:51 <HumanBones> ya
20:51 <[eC]Pl0x> :D
20:52 <[UD]EarthQuake> Man, in 8 minutes I'm going to be fucking owning everyone.
20:53 <[eC]Pl0x> Dude
20:53 <[eC]Pl0x> Good stuff
20:53 <[eC]Pl0x> Need more of that spirit
20:53 <[UD]EarthQuake> wut
20:53 <[eC]Pl0x> ;)
20:53 <baah-vd-plas> keep up those witty comments for every minute thats left eq :D
20:53 <[UD]EarthQuake> For the next 7 minutes until when ZDS starts?
20:53 <[eC]Pl0x> yes
20:54 <[UD]EarthQuake> Nah, I don't think I can do that for 6 more minutes.
20:55 <[UD]EarthQuake> Deathball in 1/12th of an hour!
20:56 <[eC]Pl0x> :o
20:56 <[UD]EarthQuake> Okay, I'm running out of witty comments.

It started off as 2 versus 2 with Pl0x, Malignity, (I think) TheCupboard, and myself. But it gained momentum rather quickly and we had almost a full server for about an hour. Everyone seemed to have a really good time, and for the most part knew what to do. I think the concept has massive amounts of potential and all we need is a solid set of maps that aren't overly complicated. About an hour and 44 minutes, the majority of the people unexpectedly left the server, and we were back down to 2 versus 2 for another 45 minutes.

Some of the games were really intense, so I would advise everyone who didn't make it last night to try to take advantage of the next opportunity at Deathball.

This is a REALLY FUN GAMEMODE.

Well the server's probly not going anywhere all week Kill Wink

And that's awesome you did get some games Quakey. As anticipated I played the Euro session for like the first time ever and after that I didn't feel up to stopping around for the US too.

The Euro sesh had some great games although we did have a few too many bodies for a couple of the maps. Oh and I had noobed up a couple of the new maps but thankfully they were still just about playable. I've already fixed those couple of problems btw Wink

Best of all was that there seemed to be absolutely no problems for anybody scoring anymore - y'know, other than when somebody ran to the wrong pit. It definitely does mean there is real potential for it to be seriously developed now! Smile

First time I played this gamemode and I have to say I'm impressed, this was highly competitive and I'd love to see some great maps for some clan on clan games! I was lost at first and trying to score in my own goal aha but I worked it out eventually.

There should be servers running this always. Mucho Funo
