After a little discussion with Thadeuss we have decided to give Free For All tournaments a go. This is what we came up with to get things going:
--------------------------------------

We would preferably need 18 or 12 sign ups (internationally) which shouldn't be a problem as the FFA scene on ZDaemon is vast.

For the 1st tournament it would be a quick one, 3 maps selected from 1 WAD where groups of 6 (if 18 sign up) or 4 (if 12 sign up) would play each of these maps.

The groups will be chosen by seeding players to make each of the 3 groups as even as possible for all players.

The 3 players with the most frags from each group would then proceed to a 4th map from the same WAD in all all out 3 man FFA battle for the winning position.

Im very aware that there is a big interest in FFA here so Thadeuss and Myself hope so see some competitive interest on this matter. Hopefully we can get some good fun for the many FFA fans out there.

Please if anyone is interested or has any thoughts visit #FFA on irc or post them here,

Many thanks,

Thadeuss & Sniper.

My fav is brit 11 I think it's the best ffa wad ever, but there is no reason we cant compile a wad that has maps form different wads.

I'd like to see more distinction made between 'FFA' and plain old 'deathmatch'. When I think FFA these days then it usually means 8+ people crammed into smallish maps. Back in the days of Doom/DoomII then there was no such term as 'FFA' - it was up to 4players and it was simply DM.

What I'm saying is that I consider 'FFA' to be pretty cheap these days and I'd rather see players fight it out on sensibly sized maps.

Brit11 or Greenwar work well but does it even have to be known maps? Would that matter so much for this kind of tourney?

You wouldn't expect to play CTF on Coopbuild maps or have duels on zdctf so why would anyone in their right minds want a serious(?) tourney to be played on 1on1 maps? While on the flipside there's already tumbleweeds blowing across this thread Mad

Ive been asking around and it seems a large number of people who would be willing to play either dont have a forum account, or are banned from the forums.

As it clearly mentioned Cyber, it would be a minimum of 12 player split into 3 groups, meaning 4 player FFA. In my opinion anything more than 1vs1 is FFA, but i guess that's just me.

There are a number of maps on Brit11 that would be suitable for a 4 man FFA, and all would suitable for a 6 man. some maps on the likes of Greenwar would probably be too large for 4 players.

But without the peoples input who dont have a forum account or are banned, we might be in a pickle as to which maps we play.
I suggest to anyone interested to add IRC channel #FFA to their auto list. As we had a big discussion on maps in there for this tourney last night.

Oh sure, but that's if you get minimum attendance (which is unlikely to say the least). The other case you stated involved 6-man brawls.

Anyways, yeah, expect me by the channel at some point Smile

Good idea, if this is still going I would be interested in taking part. I'm not a complete Brit 10/11 fan because of the crowded nature and the heavy use of BFG but there are plenty of decent DM mapsets out there

As an avid FFA player (particularly exec) I would be quite happy to be able to participate in an event like this. What I am curious about is where the server for the tournament would be located. Even in an environment with a fair share of randomness a high ping can still cost a player big-time.
