I just discovered that excellent wad called simetiere.wad/Stricke Cimetary...
It is probably not exactly new, but i really like it. It has a fun design. And some typical French humour too (a few walls that change texture when you shoot them). And it even features a ghost !
Maybe because it is French, and I am French too... |

Simetiere? I think I checked it out once offline but never felt a need to play it for real.
Most importantly then any single-map FFA WAD will fail. Occasionally you do find something like Brit11/DW5 map01 which people will play over and over but in general then people quickly become bored at playing the same map over and over for FFA.
Straight away I'm hit by the looks here. The health 'bone-us' is a funny touch but stuff like the outer walls and that moon in the sky really fail. Lack of custom music really drags the atmosphere down too. The author(s) clearly spent a lot of time assembling that collection of graphics but they should've spent more time ensuring that they all looked good together too.
Gameplay-wise then it's on a par with some dusty old DWANGO map. It's an arena with a couple of box-like buildings and some walk-over teleports which make it both annoying and easy to stumble onto the BFG.
I will draw two conclusions here:
- Whoever wastes their bandwidth running the bot server for this should give up and host something else.
- Anybody who thinks this is a good map should go check out something like GothicDM or UndeadDM to see how similarly themed maps can be made more playable and better looking.

but the bots are really good. How can you setup a local game to train against really good bots ? I am not sure that the bots provided in doomlegacy are so good. |

Just type addbot in the console and a bot will join the game. |

No cigar Ronald as that would just enter one of the standard bots.
If you want smarter bots then you have to make them.
Using Notepad open up the bot config file (bots.cfg) in the zcajun directory of your Zdaemon setup. Then go tweak with some of the numbers and names in it!
You'll be able to find some tips here.

hey guys thx for the tips.
that was inddeed my question
i already know how to add bots ingame, thank you very much for the advice Ronald...
anyway I have tried gothicdm today, and the design is inded far superior.
the Stricke wads I tried (caveofdead and simetiere) have some stupid bonus (shoot the wall, and you see a naked girl) and have a rudimentary design. I still like the looks of simetiere, it is so dramatric
so i guess they are funny for one game, and that s it.
i will check undeaddm another time
other than that,
do you guys know a good single-player/coop wad designed for training your accuracy ? I mean, designed like a good level, but with accuracy in mind.
because playing against the bots to train my aiming can be a bit repetitive.
and are there any good sp:coop wads designed ala quake ? same atmosphere, a lot of traps like in Quake 1... |

Brit10 or 11 for ffa, I hope you mean FFA instead of Co-op.
Also please don't double post |

Fixed his doublepost as it was causing you so much distress ZM. But really the guy does not have to take forum posting criticism from someone who just served out a month suspension
And why the hell would he say 'SP/Co-op' if he actually meant 'FFA'??
(and no please don't answer, that was wentirely rhetorical)

I'm pretty sure there are but I'm definitely not the right person to ask
The only things that spring to my mind which might appeal to you are Zderby (Doom racing, which is on the servers) and Void. Void is a plain awesome SP but will require Zdoom/Skulltag to run. I can't think of any SP/Co-op which is Quake-themed though. |

Hello guys, thank you for the reply.
zombie killer, I think there was en error in my copy paste, and I apologize. Why didnt you just burn it if it bothered you so much ?
And NO I didnt mean FFA. Come on guys...
cybershark,
thanks for the link. Since it is a doomwiki page, it has a pretty interesting link to a top 10 wads for single player. Has some interesting things... |

Hello,
I also tried undeaddm... the level design is quite simple, and therefore very coherent. Really nice.
Still in terms of fun, I think that Caves Of Dead by Stricke is slightly superior : it has dark corridors, which make it harder to play. Of course the design is better in undeaddm, I just think that undeaddm does get boring before CavesOfDead.
Now I wonder who is running these Stricke servers. Probably some French ? But last time I connected there, I got a really bad-ass ping.... (and I live in Spain, so right next to France) |
