I know this is an ugly topic, but some dickhead just need to ask things like this from time to time...
So is Zdaemon 1.08.08 point release still far away? I remember that some guy said around september it shouldn't be that far,but now it's the end of the year and it's still TBA. With 50 (important!!11!) bugfixes and changes/features it is about time to release it. There are a lot of annoying bugs what .08 will already fix, and I'd really like to see it soon. (Mega item respawns, monsters in CTF, taken/non-taken items, floor-ceiling skybox, spectator camera, jackhammer, ACS print, uncapped projectile speeds, skin scaling, gibbed player corpses just to mention some)
It would be just really nice to see it. |

You really are an impatient asshole. You know why your brother's forum account is suspended. Because he was unreasonable, impatient and demanding. And if you want to suffer the same fate, you're definitely on the right track here.
As has been said many times before, development takes time if you want quality. So you just need to fucking wait. Kilgore and the rest of the development also have social lives and jobs to attend to. You cannot expect anything from them. Everything they did and will do to contribute to the Zdaemon project is a gift from them to us. So quit your whining and wait patiently. |

Oh my God, OK! I'm backing off then! I was trying to say my stuff politely just to avoid this, but it seems I failed it. It would be a pain in the ass to have an another forum account activated.
Sometimes I lose my patience without realizing this is just a game. Sorry for that. Some of the bugs I mentioned above keeps me away from modding and that's why I am an irritating, impatient, demanding, sucker(and so on) asshole. I admit that.
I might need to get off Zdaemon for the time being. Let things change. |

I don't think the original post was that bad Ron, he just asked how far away the release is. I agree that the development team are hard workers and also have to balance rl with developing ZD, but really, there would be no need for posts like these if there was communication between developers and community, right now there is none. A simple sticky in the forums with something about the next release would suffice, most games do it, most ports of DOOM do it, so I see no reason why ZD cannot have more information about releases, what to expect, and generally more dialogue between players and developers.
Right now, only a few players are given info about development, and as such, a lot of misleading comments are made about it. I'd much rather Raider come out and say something about it himself. No one owes us that, but it would be nice, helpful, and further ZD as a community
Oh yeah and I realise there is a development section in the forums, but really, I think this only helps those involved in development, or interested in solving upcoming bugs. This is good, but yeah a sticky would be nice from Raider. |

Yeah, why not just do that? Maybe you should post it as an idea and ask people to help you with it. I think it would turn out good.
And I guess they hate deadlines asmuch as I do.

No harm in asking - if no one asks for an estimate we'll never know.
And I didn't see any problem in the way Body Guard asked, nothing unreasonable at all.
No need to jump all over the guy Ronald. |

yeah! and let's make it really true to the classic old doom, but also with cool new features and game mods! we call it 'odatag' or something. oh screw allusions, let's rip off ideas from zdoom and gzdoom and jdoom and prboom and chocolate doom and vavoom and risen, too... it will be the best thing since sliced bread and will have no bugs and thousands of players.
anyways, i'd welcome a new release too... apparently the devs wanna pool all the changes and fixes into one gigantic leap. and we'd be so grateful to little jumps, fixing just a few things at a time... :) |

Indeed. Nice to have you standing up for Kilgore but it was an entirely reasonably worded request.
Also bear in mind that it's not just the coders that are doing development work here. Doomer and Bodyguard are trying to break some more walls with their new version of CSCTF and while it's true they have no right to ask for any new features then you can understand that they do when in some ways Zdaemon is less functional than it has been previously (refering to the monsters in CTF bug). |

Hey, thanks for protecting my ass If nothing more just an estimated date would be good, just because I put on hold all of my projects for the time being until I can't test properly. Because of the DEHSUPPed stuff they won't work in newer Zdooms. |

I don't think that's a fair statement Thad:

- Have I ever refused to talk about how things are coming up? why do you think I stick around on IRC?
- Isn't the changelog updated with the most recent developments?
As for Body-Guard's question: do you want me to release it without resolving some known bugs? plus who knows... there might be something new in the works that makes it worth the wait |

Kilgore, I've seen you do it before, but for thread purposes will you link to the 1.08.08 changelog? Also will 1.08.08 release have the in game voice chat? And will that chat (in whatever version) be a homebrew voip program or are you tacking on another program like TS to ZDaemon.exe like ZDIRC was?
Hell I figure if you're open to questions about whats coming up you can just do a little Q&A for us with questions.
But keep the secret stuff on hush because I want to be suprised as well! |

Quote: | will you link to the 1.08.08 changelog? | Same place it has always been (and you can find it on the zdaemon homepage as well): http://master.zdaemon.org/changes.txt
Quote: | will 1.08.08 release have the in game voice chat? | No. We can't do that without a new client/server protocol which means it cannot happen in the 1.08.xx releases. It will have to wait (plus.... we're not putting voice chat in there unless we fully implement spam controls to avoid "unpleasantries").
Quote: | And will that chat (in whatever version) be a homebrew voip program or are you tacking on another program like TS to ZDaemon.exe like ZDIRC was? | It will be fully built inside the client. You won't need anything else besides a mic.
Quote: | But keep the secret stuff on hush because I want to be suprised as well! | It's not for that: if we announce something (anything), then people always want it NOW and they will usually end up disappointed. It's better to implement things first and then announce them, so we'll be sticking to that policy. Just check the changelog from time to time and you'll be able to see the progress. |

NO TROLLING! >:C People like YOU make this forum a bad place to visit.
On a somewhat realistic note, my venture into TF2 shows that being able to individually mute players helps a ton with the spam. Maybe that could be included with the voice chat to deal with spammage. |

Totally awesome Kilgore. That alone is making my panties moist for 1.09. Anyway, thanks I've bookmarked the changelog so I can look at it once in a while. |
