I like ZDS, It does good things for us all even though I should take part of it more, only if I could remember D: . Ill be there this week though!

So the suggestion? I know ZDS is community thing, and it is meant for a large scale of players to take part in. It introduces new maps, and it helps newer coop, CTF, FFA, and TDM wads be known.

I was wondering, what about 1on1? It has been left in the dust! Well 1on1 isn't a group thing as we all know and I was wondering if it would be possible to do a seperate ZDS for 1on1 maps that are new and or not well known. I think it is a wonderful idea, but it would make it harder for the ZDS folk to manage.

Comments?

What's wrong with ZDReview? Or asking a server host to host new and upcoming 1on1 wads? Sorry, but a session to me is a group thing. 1on1 is out of the question.

1 on 1 ZDS would only work if nearly EVERY server would host it just so that we could get enough people to play. I don't think 6 other people would want to lay idle in the server waiting 10+ minutes to play.

There was an experiment a while ago that used teamdm to run two simultaneous duel games. The configuration went something like this:

deathmatch 1
teamplay 1
ctf 0
teams 4
maxplayersperteam 1
maxplayers 4

And then you made two copies of the map within the level file itself; one for the blue and red teams to play on, and one for the white and green teams to play on. Of course, the red and blue starts had to be doubled up, as did the white and green ones. First player to the fraglimit ended both games. I think Cybershark had a dwango5 version at one point.

If something like Quake 3's Rocket Arena could be implemented, this sort of thing could actually work quite well. Trouble is, I don't think something like Rocket Arena would be easy to implement, seeing as it would need quite a large overhaul to the code, not to mention going against the laws of doom completely Razz

I don't know how well this would go over. First, I wouldn't know how to set it up so our usual amount of people (12+) would all get a chance to play. Second, I can't see it being very enjoyable. I think bigger games are more fun.

That doesn't mean we can't try to find some way to set it up if people are interested...but I really don't see it happening.

while getting lesser-played maps is certainly our goal then ZDS has never been aimed at the duel market. it's just not the right dynamic as we're about having as many people in a server as a map will allow for some intense group fun. it's all about lots of people coming together for game, not 2 people playing and 14 people sat on the sidelines - you must be thinking of the ZDDL Razz
in the meantime the tournies here are doing a semi-decent job of getting duel maps noticed and they are hardly oversubscribed Sad

yeah, it's called 5x2 and Stealthy has it up in the UK at the mo'. it makes an interesting sort of time-trial variant - grab 3 pals and go give it a try!
