Right now STO (SkullTag Online) has gotten a forced update, containing code to do another Denial of Service attack on the ZDaemon masterserver. Please REMOVE this upgrade from your computer as soon as possible. Everybody with this upgrade installed and (unknowingly) attacking the masterserver will be IP banned until further notice.

To clarify; this is not an attack by SkullTag, but rather by SkullTag Online. Please do NOT retaliate in any form whatsoever.

If you experience problems creating new accounts or otherwise logging in to the masterserver this is most likely the cause of the attack. Once again if you have the update installed please remove it.

-------

Edit: STO has been found not to be the cause of this, as you can read further down in Carnevil's reply to this topic.

Hmm... forced updates. Sounds like software that you should never use. Seems like Windows to me.

I seriously wonder though, will Codeimp get removed from the ST dev team?

I don't think he was ever apart of the ST dev team, infact,
I belive ST doesn't have a dev team at all. I belive Codeimp is making "successful"
attempts through Skulltag Online is because STO
is based off of DC, which he is familiar with.

Well, as most probably know, you can use IDE to browse and join Zdaemon servers.

It still queries the master just like zlauncher. Since the attack brings down the master than zlauncher, IDE wouldn't work either.

Well, after a thorough investigation, Raider, Jippy, and I have concluded that this attack did NOT originate from Skulltag Online. The proof of this is that there are IPs involved in the attack of people who have NEVER EVEN DOWNLOADED STO... including RAIDER! (and it's safe to say Raider is not flooding the ZDaemon master server!) We believe that someone out there has found a way to trick the ZDaemon master server into thinking that incoming transmissions are originating from somewhere other than the real IP. After all, many IPs that had been flooding the master server had either never used STO, not used STO recently, or it was confirmed that they had no such "flood program" running.

Moreover, the rumor that this all started after users were forced to update STO is FALSE. The one user I know of (PFL) whose STO client downloaded an update, did so because his client was out of date; NOT because someone did something malicious with STO! Users downloading updates because their clients were out of date and the start of these attacks are pure coincidence.

Anyway, as Mark Twain said, "A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes". What's important is that we've gotten to the bottom of this, and that the truth is now out there.

If you have information on what was done, or who was doing this, please contact me or Raider immediately. We want to know who's been doing this, and we want it stopped.

(Oh yeah, and STO is back up and happily running Smile)

Well, at least there are positive moments in this sad story. Carnevil talk at ZDaemon forum, Raider - at Skulltag one, which is very good - I never could understand why these two comminities are so hostile to each other.
And ZDaemon itself become better covered from malicious attacks
