| I believe id Software created the term "to frag someone" somewhere between Quake 1 and Quake 3. I dont think the word "frag" was known in this context when they made Doom. So its most likely Big Fucking Gun. |

It is officially called the Big Fucking Gun, according to id software.
Also, in the Doom 3 players guide the description for the bfg was bug f*****g gun.

As far as I know the term frag goes back at least to and may have actually originated during the Vietnam war.
It was a term used when grunts took out their own commanders for their own safety.
Grunts nearing the end of their one year tours didn't take too kindly to being unneccessarily exposed.
Captains and lieutenants served six months stints and sometimes n00b commanders cost lives.
Some short timers wouldn't let this stand between them and their ticket home.
Voila, the term frag came about!  |
