Steps I took:
1) start a server with the Ultimate Doom IWAD and alternative iwads enabled in the config
2) remove doom.wad and doom1.wad from the launcher search paths and zdoom.ini paths
3) try to connect to the server from the launcher
What happened:
Launcher correctly shows that alternative iwads are enabled, offers to download freedoomu80.wad, downloads it, and tries to launch the client. Client stops with the "You cannot use -file with the shareware version." error.
The doom2.wad/freedoom80.wad duo works fine. |

Fixed in upcoming release.
The shareware/registered IWAD check would look among other things for the lumps SPIDA1D1 and DPHOOF. Both lumps are not part of freedoom.
I would have thought the freedoom project replicates the original IWAD structure and lumps even if it means using empty placeholders. |
