Once in a while, a mapper like me will forget to delete the Doombuilder 3D Mode Start Thing (32000). Then, it shows up in the map as a red <!> sprite. My request is for ZDaemon to simply ignore such Things, or maybe even all unknown Things, as if they aren't there.

Not a bad idea; however, the unknown Thing jumps out at me when I am testing the map, so I go back in to remove it. As a map developer, you need to test out your maps before they become public.

I think I might've suggested this to someone in the past and then had it explained to me why it is a bad idea.

Just because you're testing in Zdaemon, doesn't mean you might not want your maps to run on some other port which might throw a complete fit if it sees an unknown thing.

Some people have actually replaced the unknown thing sprite to use as a decoration in their maps.

If you want it gone from something you wanna run serverside then simply make a small patchwad which blanks the UNKNA0 sprite.

Cybershark, that's a really good point there. Never thought of that.

Just passing on other people's wisdom.

Also Empyre, you shouldn't have to worry about deleting the 3D mode starts. I never did. Simply make sure you give them the flag value 0 (so they will not appear in any game mode, ever) and everything will be golden.

I personally don't even use 3d mode start object...

What is the point of it? DB saves coordinates and angles of camera during one session anyway, I mean, you can go 3d mode -> fly somewhere -> go 2d mode -> go 3d mode again -> you are right where you were last time.

The only disadvantage of not using the object is that you have to fly back to your map each time you open your map in DB. That's really a deal of only a few seconds.

How about just showing it in the console (thing # not recognized). That way you do know there is something wrong in the map.

What the person above says. Don't place the player 1 start yet only at the end of your map, so it will act like that.

Or there's even easier, uncheck every flag when you place the 3D mode start. Builder will notice it while it won't show up at all in-game, no matter the port.

Server hosts could also use a patch wad that removes the editor thing (as long as it is not implemented): http://krawaserv.dyndns.org:10500/wads/remove_editor_thing.zip

Adding my own two cents to the thread: there are enough workarounds to suppress these unknown things, so I'd vote not to change it.
