How about updating the forum to a model that allows splitting of threads?
It's occured to me before, and I believe it's been mentioned in the past. But when Domains' DUI NJ thread got stamped on for exceeding its original scope - yet at the same time was the most impressive spate of reasoned posting in months - then you know something's going wrong here. |

The forum already has a thread splitting function.
It's also a matter of when the Moderator or Administrator in question gets the time (and sees the need) to do such a split. |

Oh shi-
My bad! Been so long since I used it I forgot it does work here! Nonetheless, it can be quite unwieldy to use and there are other oversights like being able to merge threads. |

Yeah...that's true, can be a bit interesting to use.
As far as merging threads..there doesn't appear to be such a function in place (or I've missed it completely).
Even then, would depend on the type of thread and if you'd really want to subject someone to several hundred pages instead of several threads of a more reasonable size. |

Merging threads came about in phpBB3, so that doesn't exist for these forums. (yet) |
