What is the usefulness of this dmflag? If it's on, the map continues with the next map in the playlist, or the map defined by MAPINFO. If it's off, the map repeats itself, which is equivalent to having the map the only map in the playlist.

Does this seem redundant? Or I am missing some mechanic that is only possible through using this flag?

I've been thinking the same thing too recently. It should be totally pointless when 'kill on exit' is on for DM!

I'd imagine it's there because it's useful in offline play...?

I use this for when I'm flipping through a wad with one hand on my crotch so I dont need to type 'map map' blah blah in the console on singleplayer mode

The logic behind this flag is simple. When it's on, exits in coop act normally, they will advance to whichever level they are supposed to (be this a secret level or a normal one). This is most likely used when no maplist is present, and has the maps advance normally as they would in Doom.

When it's off, the exit does not determine the next level. It simply ends it. If there is a maplist, then the next map in rotation would be played.

If you are running a standard coop server, and you want logical order in the maps, and there's no specific reason to omit any maps, you should run the server with no maplist and this option on.

There MIGHT be a condition when this is ON and using a maplist. Perhaps if it's on the exit advances to the proper level, as long as it's in the maplist no matter where it is in the maplist. May or may not be the case, but either way this would be undesirable.

AS SUCH:

If you are using a maplist and want it followed make sure this option is off.
If you don't have a maplist and want maps to advance normally turn it on.

Read my topic here suggesting why this DMFLAG should be removed.
