I thought now we are going to have a teammate indicating radar for 1.08.09, we could have a custom zdaemon item for it too. If somebody picks it up from team A, the whole team will be able to see the team B's moverment too on the radar for 45 secs. I think that is a pretty fair duration for the powerup to not to be abused.
So what do you think?

I think it's best to stay away from implementing features like this that are specific to ZDaemon. Otherwise we're just going to turn this into a another Skulltag. That's why I'm against implementing ZDaemon-specific ACS specials and DeHackEd. If one of our many goals is to have better cross-port compatibility, why add something like this, making our maps less compatible? Isn't it bad enough that we have to use dirty hacks to do the same stuff ZDoom can do?

I don't get what is the problem here. You mean this is already implemented?

I see where are you coming from, but Zdaemon has its own ways since the decision of using the 1.xx engine. Speaking of which, Zdoom compatibility will end at more recent ACS support and no more as I know. As we all know, DECORATE will never happen, so why not make a more controllable multiplayer mapping enviroment? I do not ask for a shitload of new items and gamemodes as skulltag have, but items that make zdaemon features like team radar even more better would be good.


I am not demanding anything here, just wish to help zdaemon to be more by suggesting things as anyone else does in the feature request forum.

Phenex's point is that you are clearly insane because you're asking for the development of a new feature that hasn't even been mass-tested yet. How about we let 1.08.09 out first, give people chance to see how they like the radar and then figure out if it should be tinkered with.

Ahh ok I get it Razz Well one thing is sure; the radar will be a thing that will always be on my HUD, that I predict even before the release!

a radar what is this Call of Duty? this is doom use ventrilo and talk to your team mates.

What i f your connection cannot handle voice chat during a game? don't assume everyone can/wants to use ventrillo or teamspeak.

Last time I checked, we WERE talking about doom, right? not call of duty?
Try not get too far away from doom, here, this is ZDaemon, not Skulltag.

But how about this:

The regular Overlay Automap in a little square in the corner, that you can
toggle on/off just like the automap, and set the map colors and background for,
just like the regular automap? Shit, why not instead
of the doomguy face on the hud, you can have THAT space be the map?

Come on, a powerup? You're talkin skulltag there, man Confused

it's a nice idea I like it but really I think it'll just be dumb for doom itself. When playing capture the flag professional teams are professional because they can communicate with eachother know what eachothers doing etc etc. It could be a little dmflag or something for 'special' ctf maps which come out in the future I guess. Just gotta remember ctf is a very competitive gamemode nowadays and if things like that get implemented it will either get adapted into the whole scene or it'll make ctf go unpopular.
