I met Chrono][unter YEARS ago at a robotics meet in Atlanta.
Other than my brother and best friend that used to play, I never met any other doomer. |

I have not met any Doomers anywhere.
I used to play doom when it first came out
over the phone with my friend that I had previously
been into the Star Trek strategy board game, Panzer Blitz
same style of tabletop turn-based games. I loved those
summer weekends spending all day gaming, listening to albums
arguing, consulting exhaustive manuals and books- then Doom
came along.
I played that with Mike beginning the christmas it was released
along with Heretic, and Falcon Gold F-16 over the modem, and
Perfect general 1, Perfect General 2.
Just yesterday I was in a board game shop (wizards of the coast
now dominates the market I see) and was feeling very nostalgic for
that old tabletop strategy battlegame.
I think there is a place for both types of game in my life-
but i'm really starting to feel like finding a local group of
strategy board game players- not D and D, there's nothing
wrong with it- they are just not my type usually- but hey theres
alot of people out there that don't act or look like D and D people.
I guess I just get turned off by the whole d and d "culture"
as opposed to spending a nice summer day and evening out on the lawn
using my brain like a 5 year old spongey kid in constant wonderment,
elation, and curiosity!
i need to do some of that, some of these new doom maps are so beautiful
though, and evocative of the early nineties for me.
No, i haven't met anyone since Mike who Dooms.
Sad that he's been married as long as doom2 has been around
and his kids are as old as doom2!
Communication Breakdown. |

Reminds me of strategy board gaming by mail in the early seventies.
I used to play a game called Diplomacy, I think it's still around.
It was a turn based game, and when it was your turn you mailed your move into the gamemaster, who would send out a regular newsletter of the monthly moves.
You were in deep shit if the dog ever knocked over your gameboard.
Yep, nothing like sitting down to a nice 5 year game. |

I remember those! I was only 11 and too young to go to my BBS's GTs, but apparently there was a Doom Tournament at one, and Xoleras drove up from Tucson to Phoenix, and told Baraka that he was the best player there.
Alright, my list (more or less in order):
1. Rachel (my fiance, known here as [sd]star or [s]thunder, I loved you - R.I.P.)
2. Vampy (What more can I say about this guy, he's my bro for life.)
3. BaRaKa ((DUI)Shooter) - known since '95
4. Sir Race Alot - known since '95
5. Zelda
6. Zelda's Brother - forget his name
7. Hatred (the only person to smoke with at LANada), and I think we've said 500x that I should come visit him in Toledo but never did
8. Devastation in a white suit
9. WaxFigure (twice in two different countries)
10. Wrath (twice in two different countries)
11. AF-Domains (lil motherfucker wearing all black beat us at lasertag)
12. Shadow-Ghost
13. Arrogance
14. Switcher
15. Puppy for 2 seconds when Arrogance got picked up by his mom
16. Greed (while visiting Wrath/WaxFigure in NY)
17. Trigger (twice in two different states)
18. Dred
19. I think I'm missing a few here (especially from the pre-2000 days), sorry about that. |

I'm down with IndiLANapolis. Like I said, if it were organized, I could host, or even get a really large Hotel Room.
I know there are plenty of Ohio and Illinois Doomers. EQ is just inside Ohio and him and I were suppose to meet up anyway so. . . . :/
Lets do that! |

Aren't the Czechs just that little bit closer to each other I remember a picture of about 20 of you all at some pub once, on those long oak tables with your tankards of beer |

Dang, the Czechs own on all aspects of Doom. Looks like you'll need to travel a little more Whiteknight. |
