|
|
When 3D sound is enabled in sound menu, loud cracking noises randomly appear when many sounds are played at once. Most often it happens in MP when several players fire chainguns or plasmaguns at once. It is most noticeable when the weapons are fired in the distance. Here is sample I recorded in MP when 3 or 4 players fired plasmaguns:

I tried it on 3 different PCs (all W7 64-bit) with different sound cards (and 5.1 speakers), but the cracking is always there. This didn't happen in previous Zdaemon versions. I tried juggling with buffer sizes, number of simultaneously played sounds and other sound settings, but the cracking was always there. The only way to eliminate it was to disable 3D sound, which is obviously undesirable. |

Anyone uses 3D sound?
Could anyone deny or confirm it? |

Shall we do a skype/discord test? I feel like you're suggesting a massive get-together to test this bug out... |

Although this isn't directly related to the loud crack that was being reported, the following fix has been made in the latest 1.10.22 build (2022-12-19):
Code: |
16. Fix for a problem with "3D Sound" where some sounds were played at
full volume.
|
As a result of the above (or even if it is unrelated), have you and others noticed any changes when it comes to this particular occurrence? |

I can still experience that 3D sound is theoretically ON in the settings, but sometimes the sounds have the same volume as if it weren't turned on.
This usually happens while I am listening to something else and the zdaemon.exe is started at the same time.
OS is Win 8.1 64 bit, if it matters anyhow. |
